Lets pretend for a moment that price is equal.
Which would you pick, and why? |

Wilson Combat...
The price isn't equal for a reason. One is a production pistol, the other a semi custom pistol. Even with the Wilson being more than the DW, I would still pick Wilson Combat. Dan Wesson makes arguably the -best- production 1911 you can buy. Wilson, well, they have a good reputation in the Semi Custom world obviously. Both are great pistols in their price ranges respectively. |

Me personally a Nighthawk. But if those to I love DW but they are not created equal with Wilson so would go with the Wilson.. Nighthawk will be my next purchase. What specifically do you like about Nighthawks build quality over Wilson? I personally like the one smith concept. |
| For the money you can't beat the Dan Wesson Valor, so much quality for half the price of the Wilson. Wilson is going to be a little nicer, hand fit barrel being the main difference, so a little more accurate, but most can't tell the difference anyways. I went Dan Wesson Valor for my 1911 and it's great. I've shot plenty of Wilson's and they are nice, but just not worth it to me. Of course I know some rich guys who carry $10K Wilson's like most carry a Glock, ha, I wish I was that well off, but I'm poor. So if money isn't a factor then yeah get the better gun and go Wilson. If you are tight on funds, then go Dan Wesson Valor and you won't be disappointed. |

If price was equal this is not a contest at all. Wilson hands down. For half the money a DW is a LOT more than half the gun though. Yes. I should also add that I would personally buy a DW, or two DWs, before I spent the money on a Wilson. Not to put too fine a point on it, I feel the Wilsons have moved beyond what I would choose to pay for a semi-custom 1911. I've owned Wilsons before and they are personally not my cup of tea, so the idea of paying an ever-increasing premium for one is not appealing to me. |

I'm assuming you mean $1500- $2100 for the Wilson and not $3500 to $6000 for the DW ?
If it's a Supergrade with a blued finish and every option and a naked slide Vs a DW Heritage than sure, Wilson. Otherwise I'm going to say DW, just because I think Wilson is taking the piss pricewise these days , while DW are making something soooooo close for so much less. I have had 3 DW's and 3 Wilsons. Functionally, they both do what they are supposed to, none did it particularly better than any other. Still have 3 DW's, 1 Wilson, though not Wilsons fault, I just liked other guns more. 2 of my Wilsons had more go faster stripes and other adornments than my DW's, but I also had one DW customized how I wanted it for less than the cost of a basic CQB so I guess that would be a wash... DW customer service is, anecdotally excellent too, plus they have a custom shop... |

I've owned a CBOB for a long time and recently picked up a Valor in Duty Coat. Both run great.
I almost bought a Wilson CQB about 10 years ago and honestly was not that impressed. Maybe they have improved but the parts quality and painted finish were mediocre, so I bought a Les Baer TRS. The Baer may not have the painted finish but it runs great and has higher quality parts. If I had Wilson money I would probably buy an Ed Brown Executive. |
