Has anyone ever made a safety that disengaged when sweeping it up?
Doing holster draws it seems like sweeping up would be more fluid getting the gun in fire mode and sweeping down would work better reholstering.

Not if you are gripping the pistol properly- when you grip the gun your thumb will naturally land on top of the safety , which is where it stays once you push it down

when I started shooting practical matches in 1982, the LOUDEST sound I ever heard was when I accidentally clicked the safety off when drawing my 1911...even with my finger off the trigger

I don't think anyone makes a safety that works like that, thankfully. The design works well,as designed.
You just need more practice with a empty gun. And please don't get in a hurry reholstering a hot gun.

I have now seen the thumb over safety grip and learned. I have taken a file and dremel to the gun

Well Browning made one (against all logic) for the BDM, with the results being about what you'd expect, i.e. miserable adoption.

Smith & Wesson made a bunch and they were slide mounted to boot. Damned difficult to disengage quickly. Luger's also disengaged upward IIRC. Rotated backward too.
