While looking for my next 1911 I found some companies offer factory threaded barrels in some models. As I have a suppressor coming soon this got me wondering how hard it is to swap out the factory barrel for a threaded replacement. Coming from Glocks all I know is 1911 barrels have to be fitted and are not a drop in item.

What is all involved with fitting a barrel? Would it be better to just get a new gun with a factory threaded barrel?

Just get a new gun with a factory threaded barrel.
Save the cost of the new barrel and gunsmith fees and down time while your gun is away.

Thats what I was thinking but it does limit my options.

A lot depends on intended use and required accuracy.

Never seen a can at a Bullseye competition.

Buy a stormlake "drop in" barrel

Its easy enough, doubtful it will actually drop in.

I had to file down the hood slightly in length and width.

Easy peasy. Oh its stupid accurate too, much to my surprise, and 100% reliable. Honestly I think its more accurate now than it was before, then again that barrel had a ton of rounds through it.
