After a brief affair with an Italian babe named Berreta PX4 Storm which, I could not make reliable, I'm back with a 1911. I brought home a beautiful Kimber Pro Carry in 9mm. So far, she has been 100% which should help my scores in the CCP division of IDPA. I feel like I'm going old school and liking it. Any thoughts on the Kimber 1911's?

I've got a Kimber Pro Carry and it has been a great gun. I'm not a huge Kimber fanboy but I do own 3 of them and they have been good guns.

Some of them have reliability problems, some of them are good.  OP came in because he is excited about it, not to have someone shit on it.

OP, enjoy your 1911.

I've owned several Kimbers, both Series I and Series II, and they ran well. A couple needed a Colt slide stop to cure premature slide lock. The "Kimbers are crap" is way overblown.

Just can't get excited or congratulatory over anyone talking about a Kimber. Like dude said above, sometimes they work, they are OK but they sure as hell are not the premium brand they market themselves as.

I have to agree. I bought a kimber ultra carry 2 for $600 to help out a buddy. It's performance hasn't been awful, but less impressive than my Springfield gi, and less than the two ria's I've owned. I ended up giving it to my old man as a gift.

Only 1911 I've had that was worse (ftf, stoves, general accuracy, fitment of parts) was para. Very unimpressed by the one I had.

I wouldn't pay retail for a kimber.

The man asked for thoughts, I gave him mine in my experience.

Good luck with it, OP. I hope you don't have the myriad issues others have had with Kimbers.

I thought you were talking about the Beretta PX4 Storm.

Put another 200 rounds through the Kimber today without any issue. So far, could not be happier! I leaned toward the Kimber as my Kimber Custon has been great the last 15 years.

Nothing wrong with Kimbers in my experience- the last 6-7 years. In the last 38 years I've owned Colt 1911's (Combat Commanders, Government models, Delta Elites) as well as several Kimbers (2 Pro Carry models and now Custom TLE/RL II as well as a stainless Pro Raptor) and the Kimbers were better out of the box than any of my Colts. They had night sights, match barrels, match triggers, polished feed ramps, and beveled magazine wells (which for the same price the Colts did not). I read about the issues Kimbers had with their earlier external extractor models, but, none of the models I have owned had external extractors and all were problem free. I've even read about the issue with rusting. None of mine had any problems with rust. All of my Kimbers have been issue free. That is not something that I have only read about. That is my experience. I can't talk to the 3" models as I have not, nor do I want a 3" 1911 because I've read that many brands of 3" models can be problematic-not just Kimbers. There are only two things that I have changed on any of my Kimbers. The cheesy Kimber factory magazine and the plastic mainspring housing.

My Kimbers are not my favorite 1911 pistols. I have one and that is my Night Hawk Custom Recon Enforcer 10mm. But, I could only afford to buy one. I have no doubt that for the price your Kimber will serve you well. It sounds like it already is. I know that mine have.

I have to agree, I haves owned both Colt and Para 1911's and needed work on both to make them reliable. Kimber was my first 1911 that was perfect from the day I brought it home many years ago. I'm hopeful the Carry Pro will be the same. I must say, it is quite an attractive pistol.
