Wow, sturmgewehr.com. I forgot all about that board. I thought Buddy ran everyone off with his "Rules".

I stopped going there years ago because of his rules. It looks like it might be a reasonably run place now. I don't see any of his annoying rule posts and topics are getting moved instead of deleted.

Supply/demand. Not a lot of them out there, a lot go to the .gov. Want a new one that's not 3,500? Order one and wait a year or so, My dealer said pricing is up to 2900 or so however now a days.

The professional is a hell of a 1911.

Use to be had at bargain prices in the 2400 range or so. Those days are gone.

It was designed for the FBIs Hostage Rescue Team, hand built at that in SA's custom shop. Its one of the most tested 1911s of all times. It definitely holds a special spot in 1911 history. Also comes with 6 "tuned" mags.

Its one of the finest examples of a working 1911. I maybe biased however.

$3500.00 is a good deal after seeing the one on Gunbroker for $5999.00. Of course, the one up for auction comes with Genuine Wilson Combat 47D mags.
$5999.00 Proffessional 1911

You're forgetting Vollmers. I spent a lot of time there before they shut down. I gravitated to Subguns after that.

demand makes it a $3500 1911. As someone else already explained; Springfield makes these in batches and they are largely committed to orders for the FBI. What's left over from a batch gets sold to the regular commercial market on a first-come-first-serve basis. Orders have to be placed through an FFL, and Springfield does not require a deposit.  Typically takes a year plus to get one if you order it and wait.
As far as 1911s go, I think it's one of the best built guns in the industry.  Almost ordered one myself, but there were just a few things I wanted to change, which stops it from being "The Professional."  Instead, just order a Springfield Custom Carry and spec it out how you want. Still get the same great build quality.
My Custom Carry has been 100% flawless.  Which is better than I can say for some other 'custom' 1911s i've put hands to.

Just for reference though, Nighthawk Customs are in that price range, and so are Wilson Combats.  Nothing new, price wise, it's just what the market will bear for 1911 pricing.  I remember when you could get a Nighthawk GRP completely spec'd the way you wanted it for $1500, and it'd only take a few months to get.
