One of my Wilsons has the extreme melt.

It makes for a smooth holstering and overall snag-free carry gun.

Ironically the one I carry most has none of these things

You can't see it very well, but EVERY surface is rounded off and soft.

Can't wait that long so I am going to have the Springfield custom shop do one on my combat commander.

Each looks unique.

Some people take off more material than others.

There's a fine line between melt and blob.

I handled an old Clark meltdown at WMC Firearms in Humboldt TN.  This was ~8-10 years ago.

The slide looked like a bar of soap.  It also had one of the best triggers in a pistol I've ever pulled.

I think a less extreme melt would appeal to me more, but it was nice.

I couldn't afford it at the time or it would've come home with me.

The owner is a crotchety old guy, seems to dislike everyone, but he loves old shotguns, rifles, and pistols.  He let me dryfire it.  Trigger was perfect.

I think the son passed recently, Sr has been gone awhile, I have one of the hardball 1911s he made back when he MADE them, not just stuck already made parts on them or stuck them in a CNC mill. [nothing wrong with that, it took a LOT of work out of the repetitive work.]

Not all the ''purdy'' but gives any Wilson you could buy a run for fit and smoothness.

Yes.

He let them go.... to run free, and experience life in the wild on their own.

I have handled a few guns that looked like that but they were from shitty refinishing jobs where somebody went crazy on the polishing wheel

When they first appeared in magazines in the late 90s I wanted one pretty bad for a while.   Just something different and unique.   Nowadays I'd do it myself before I'd pay Clark's to do it.

Me too, that magazine spread and another with an article about the then new Springfield Bureau model are what sparked my 1911 lust.
