Anyone out there mount a Burris red dot on a 1911, and got any
pics and or issues. Id like to hear about your experience with it.
I have a Sig 1911 that Im in the process of cleaning up and basically upgrading etc.
Had a lot done besides the Nickel plating and Cerakote slide, but im
really getting ready to try a red dot sight ( Burris fastfire 3 ) and Im getting a Novak mount
for it and know its not going to be a slam dunk by any means. lot of fitting and fileing as well.

Any feedback welcome.

heres what im working with.

I don't shoot open, but I know quite a few guys with FFs slide mounted on 2011s.  They run them hard and I have't heard of any issues.

Edit - also have a few guys running them on Glocks and M&Ps in Carry Optics.

Ok so I figured id piss off a bunch of purists out there for messin with a 1911.
Common guys its not a Colt or Dan Wesson not even a Les Baer. Id not mess with that stuff.
Any ways had to try it cause thats what I do. I try different stuff to see how it works for me.

I got it mounted up and its real snug, holds a zero and shoots amazing from a bench rest.
Probably be able to do some tight groups at 50yds or better. ( put 150 or more rounds through it and all grouped real well. )
Heres a 25yd picture. I did shoot a lot better ones as well and Its probably great for competition shooters.

Anyways did not care for it at all shooting free hand, and I shoot pretty well with iron sights.
The red dot moves around enough to drive me nuts. I love the way it shoots from a bench, but free hand it sucks for me.
I went back to my Kensight rear sight after a couple days at the range.
So this is my two cents for someone wanting to try it.

the red dot moves no more no less than the iron sight. You should adjust your grip so the gun will reset to the same position after each firing (close enough for a bill drill).

Mine are frame mounted and I use a comp

This. I keep hearing people say that same thing, but the dot isn't moving any more. It is simply easier to see the dot moving around than to see the front post moving in relation to the rear sight.

bingo.
I've noticed getting good with a dot gun improved my iron shooting. In the areas of grip and draw and splits.
