Ive loved this gun ever since I first laid eyes on it.
So tell me why I SHOULDNT get it? Yes its 14 rounds of 45 goodness, so the weight will be up there. Im not looking at it for a carry piece. Ive had a regular GI RIA and it was a pretty good shooter, ESP for the price. So anybody have this gun? Is it good to go? |
| So yall reckon normal 1911 grips will fit? Cant tell from the pics but it looks like they might not. Ive been looking for this gun for a looong time. And Ive never been able to catch one out in the wild. I hate the idea of buying one before I can fingerbang it. |
|
Just found the Armscor/RIA models today... They...are....gorgeous. My problem is deciding whether i want a Single-stack or Double-stack now... Full-slide or Mid... |
|
My experience with that company is limited to 1 pistol. A kid I went shooting with brought his RIA 1911, I shot his after shooting my Springfield Range Officer model. I don't care that he bought it for less than $400, it was the most sloppy lose cheap feeling thing I have ever shot. Seriously, my father had a Lorcin .25auto he gave me, which I gave to my father in law that felt like it had better tolerances. I will say, it did go bang every time though.
The pistol was a much older model, and I'm thinking they surely can't still be that bad, but until I hold one & and or shoot one of the newer models they are garbage in my book that I wouldn't waste my money on. |

The last one I had the fit and finish exceeded my expectation for the cost. The few Ive looked at locally still seem to match that quality. Plus they do have a lifetime warranty. I dont have any reason to NOT buy another RIA. I was just curious about this specific model with it being a double stack. |
|
this thread is relevant to my interests, I'm looking hard at the double stack 10mm now
I do know the rock island guns take the P14/P16 mags, they don't take regular grip panels, and they are only about .040" wider in the grip than the single stacks. fit and finish is meaningless to me, I'm interested in reliability and accuracy |

Sent in an email to Armscor
Question Im looking to buy the TAC Ultra FS HC - 45 ACP Ive been looking at it for a while now and was wondering, with it being a double stack. Will the grips on a plain 1911 fit it? Also what other parts on the gun differ than your average 1911. Any insight would be great. Thanks Answer You need specific A2 grips, grip screws, magazine release, and trigger... So that means what exactly? |

RIA refers to the double stack guns as the 1911A2 series, they were enumerating the parts that do not interchange with regular 1911s |

I have the 10mm version of the above mentioned pistol. I thought about the .45acp version but wanted to go instead with a 10mm for ballistic superiority. I also went with their single stack model in 10mm as well. My .o2 Have you shot the double stack much? How has it done? |

That may be the case, But the shop I was at had a NEW one, double stack tactical, in stainless. It was very purty... but almost 3k. It was sitting in the mix with the Dan Wesson and Les Baers... Needless to say that area of the gun shop was Well out of my price range lol |

Shot only the single stack as I had to wait 4-5 weeks for mags to be available for the 2011. I hope to shoot it soon. The single stack was just fine. Not accurate by any means when compared to my Les Baer's, but then again they cost 1/5 as much.

Shot my RIA 2011 10mm yesterday. Gun functioned flawlessly & was more accurate than my Glock 20SF was. While mine has the mag well (which I like), I opted for the non-railed version as I don't like rails.
Anyone straddling the fence on these, they're well worth the moderate price, IMO. I carry my 10mm single stack & use the 2011 for a truck gun. |

| Well it shoots... I was very short on time today but was able to run 5 mags thru it. I bought cheap tulammo for it. I figured if it runs this stuff it'll run just about anything. Happy to report it gobbled it up. Gun shoots great. On point and accurate..pretty decent trigger. I'm happy with it, looking forward to putting a lot more ammo thru it. |

Have you thought about switching the gun to a "short" trigger? This will shorten the reach required. Quoted:

I've tried double stack .45s. My hands just don't fit. Have you thought about switching the gun to a "short" trigger? This will shorten the reach required. did not. I had a HK tac and a Glock 21, I gave up and bought a 1911 for a .45ACP |

Well I finally found one.. Had to take it home with me.. Now I need to find a few mags for it and maybe some grips As far as I know, the only grips VZ makes for the RIA hi caps are the ones that come on the gun. Para P14 grips are close, but something is different (grip screw spacing, I think, but don't quote me on that). If you want G10 grips, you could try modifying Para grips (be careful sanding or drilling that stuff). |
|
I have the same gun in 9mm. It makes my 9mm Range Officer look bad. Better slide to frame fit, better trigger pull and more accurate. STI mags will work with minor modification (30 seconds with a belt sander), as will Mec-gar Para mags with Dawson extensions and Arredondo followers. There is a huge thread on the Brian Enos Forum on these guns. There are other triggers and mag releases that will fit and several magazine options, all other parts are standard 1911 parts with the exception of the grips. I have not yet found any aftermarket grips.
Surprisingly the grip does not feel much different than a standard 1911. |
