Hi guys, I accidently dry fired my R1 while I was taking it apart to once again give Frog lube a try. I know someone's going to ask at what stage of disassembly I was at when it happened, and for the life of me I cant remember. I was so wrapped up in worrying if I had damaged something, and going over and over how I was going to clean of each individual part from the oil that was on it, I'm just not sure. If I was to guess, Id say I had released the tension of the recoil spring by the first turn of the bushing, and then it happened. Anyway on another note, I used ZEP orange cleaner on all the parts, then heated them with a blow dryer, and while warn applied the frog lube. I'll give an update on how it was to clean after my next range visit. Happy New year and be safe.

it's fine, don't worry.

If you still had the slide and slide release installed then it was no different then dry firing with the recoil spring under tension.

I'd be more worried about the Orange Cleaner and the Frog lube screwing up the gun.

This.

If nothing snapped and flew off, and if all the parts work like they are supposed to still, non-issue.

It's doing it repeatedly with the slide off that messes anything up.

Frog Lube is shit.

Keep it as far away from a 1911 as humanly possible.

If you want to lubricate it with anything, either use the Wilson combat ultimate lube, EWL, or simple synthetic motor oil.

Hoppes 9 works for me.

What you can do wrong is pull the trigger while the slide is off and let the hammer hit the frame. This will eventually raise an edge there that will make the slide rise when it hits it. If you do it, all you have to do is carefully file the raised edge off.
