I have wondered about these high dollar 1911s being worth so much. I went to my LGS a couple weeks ago to pick up my Springfield. It now has a perfect 3# trigger and I had it bobtailed. It is nice but the $5000.00 1911 that the smith had just finished is awesome beyond anything I could imagine. The slide feels like it's on linear bearings. It was broken in with 300rds of mixed ammo and random mags with no issues at all. It will be featured in an article on The Truth About Guns after it gets back from black nitriding.
The $6000.00 race gun that was one of 2 belonging to Jessie Duff was equally impressive. It was .38 super with a 2# trigger. I would love to have shot it. Having handled these 2 guns I would say they are very much worth the price if you can afford it. I'm having a problem with my Springfield now. It currently wears an Advantage Arms .22 conversion and the Win. M-22s won't stay in the damn thing.

I can't see paying over $1K for any pistol. It my cut off. From Colt 1911s, to RPB open bolt pistols, to P08 Lugers, always paid under $1K. Just my rule of thumb. You can get some nice pistols under $1K that work great. Just can't see paying more than that, but that's just me. |

Brandi, how do you like those slide serrations? I think that or something close on STI's USPSA model. I love them, excellent grippiness. They look great and work even better. They seem to be popular with the competition folks, I've seen a lot of them being used. |

So you would not pay over $1,000 for this? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a368/DEG169/1911/18Commercial_zpsff56f122.jpg or this http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a368/DEG169/luger/7706-1.jpg Quoted:

I don't think the "colt" name turns $600 1911 into a $1200 one... But that's just me. |

Recently paid just under $1K for each of those. Got the 1920 DWM P08 in just two Weeks ago fro Simpsons LTD. The Colt COLO1911ANVIII this last week. I am banking on guns going up with the election season coming and wanted to get mine before they do. You can find some great deals if you look hard enough. |

In the case of the Colt 1918 reissues, it turns $1000 into 1400 fairly easily looking at the prices they are selling for on exchanges and auctions. Not that I'll ever sell mine. |

I've been up into the mid $3Ks with 1911s.
It's not something that I would do again, but was fun while I was into it. I can solve most any reliability issue on a 1911 myself. I honestly think a base model 5" Colt is functionally the best 1911 money can buy. Everything else is just fluff. |
| I love to look at pretty guns! (We call them Bar-B-Q guns down here in TX because they are worn to fancy Bar-B-Q parties but otherwise live in a safe). Personally I've never paid over $800 for any pistol since I actually carry and use mine, and if they get scuffed-up it doesn't bother me like it would if I was packing a $5k work of art. |

If you don't feel spending 2.5-6k on a semi-custom 1911 is worth it, no amount of convincing will make you change your mind. For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, no explanation is possible. Perfectly said, and so true. |
