| i have a family friend who wants to sell me a 1911 frame. well question is, is it compatible with new build parts. he is selling a "argentine colt 1911 frame" i believe he said it was dated 1923-1927 somewhere between there. he wants 200 for it. is this a good deal? can i actually build off of it? would it make a suitable base? |

Yes, the frame is a great foundation for whatever you want to turn it into. Fun fact for the night, between 1914 and 1941 Argentina procured 21,161 pistols of 2,151 were 1911 style purchased directly from Colt. That doesn't take into consideration an estimated 1723 more 1911's that were shipped to Argentina via importers between 1919 and 1939. One thousand of the 1911 from Argentina are marked "Ejercito Argentino Colt Cal .45 mod 1927" these were a model number as designated, not the year, number 1 in the serial number was made july 18, 1927 and number 1000 on feb. 16 1928. If you do get it and want to know more about it, im me, the Clawson book I have on 1911's has a good amount of information on the Argentina Colts. |

Also keep in mind you could go out and buy a new colt or Springfield ( I am a fan of the colt rail gun personally) with cash left over for extra mags
For how much it will cost to buy equal quality parts to build a stripped frame into a first rate gun, let alone if you hit a bump in the build and have to involve a gunsmith |

the price of building wont bug me too much, although fitment may cause a slight hindrance, the individual who is selling it to me use to do some gunsmithing so he may be able to help if i run into frame and slide issues. also my coworker probably can assist in building. but yea my true question was just to see if i was gtg with it being compatible with todays slides and parts.
also the frame is apparently new and completely untouched thank you everyone for the input! |
