Who on here has a Rock Island Armory Tactical model?  I just purchased a full size blacked out model off Gunbroker.  I know RIA has a good record for a solid basic no frills shooter. My only plans are to get some Chip McCormick mags, Wilson mags and change the goofy looking trigger..
My Springfield seemed to only like Chip McCormick mags.  Later I will probably put a better front sight on. Thats why I started looking at the tactical models with the dove cut front sights from the factory. Also Im a lefty so I wanted the ambi safety.

I have that model, but mine is in 9mm.  I'm also the second owner, and I don't know how many rounds the previous owner put through it, but I'm getting close to 1k.

The only things I did with mine was remove the full length guide rod and replaced it with a standard set, and when I replaced the grips, the extended safety on the right side of the gun had a tendency to hit the top of the grip so it would not fully disengage.  I fixed it by filing the top edge of the grip just a bit to round it off and give the safety enough room to move all the way down.

Great shooter for the price.  Although I'm looking at changing the sights out on mine as well, and people are saying the dovetail cuts are NOT standard and won't just take any 1911 sights.  I haven't been able to confirm this as fact yet.

The sight cuts are not quite Novak cuts but close. I had to do a little fitting of my front sight one one and the other I just used a cobalt bit and drilled a detent in the front sight , then painted the detent white after filling in the black detents on the rearsight with the same white and now have a 3 dot sight system that is sweet.  That front factory sight is hard as hammered hell. Cobalt bit in the drill press did a sweet smooth job.. Those really are great guns for the money. Out of 13 1911's, 3 of mine are Rock Island and they have been trouble free and VERY accurate from the start.

I just bought a tactical II with the 4.25" barrel a few weeks ago and so far it's been great. Feels very well made, especially for the price and has been accurate out of the box as far as I'm concerned. I've only shot 200 rounds so far and they
were Winchester white box and some freedom munitions reloads, but not a single hiccup!

I just bought this two weeks ago.

Have only plinked about 100 rds through it so far and I am happy with how it shoots. It is fun to make golf balls bounce around at 10-15 yards. I like the CM 10 round mags too.

I've got a .45 tactical that I bought used. Only about 150 rounds thru it so far, and no issues. I use chips power mags, novaks and some generic mags with no issues so far.

I just picked one up. Not really impressed. I think my ATI Shooters Arms is a better 1911.

That's true, even the sights made for an RIA Novak cut need some fitting.

Mine is a great shooter, wonderful trigger, feeds every bullet I have fed it, and I got it for $350 new, so it was hard to pass up.

I subdued the old billboard rollmark with some cold blue and put a Hi-Viz front sight on it with Magpul grips.

I picked one up when Buds had them on Black Friday a few years ago for 359.  Really intended to flip it.  Have about 3500 rounds through it with no issues. It shoots beyond my talents. Its my EDC now.  If you do have a problem RIA has great CS.

I have the Tactical model with the satin nickel finish. I wish it was park'd or something else black.
It has a low round count but has been flawless except with the ACT mag that came with it.

Anyone know what kind of finish I can put on top of nickel?

I have the RIA Tac with the full rail.   The gun has been very good to me and has taken a fair amount of abuse.   Cool thing is that it just keeps on going.   Everything on it is stock except I took off the ambi safety and replaced it with a GI safety and replaced the grips with Hogue wrap arounds.   Great gun for the money.

I've a 22tcm version of the tactical and both the 9mm and the 22tcm have been great guns.  Almost no recoil and a hoot to shoot.

Www.22tcm.net has more info on these Rock island guns

I keep holding out hope that they'll make that with the short rail.

I have a new RIA tactical 45acp CS. I have only put 100 rds through it so far. I had some issues but I'm pretty sure that it was the aftermarket mags fault. Got a Wilson on the way. Very accurate gun. I didn't care for the sights being solid black, so I researched about aftermarket sights for it, and found out that the dovetails are kinda RIA specific. So I just used some flat Testors model paint and painted the stock sights. It made a HUGE difference! Very happy so far!

I took mine apart and cleaned up all the edges and I put in a Wilson combat trigger. I ran 225 rounds of ammo through it.
I ran 50 rounds federal aluminum cased fmj zero malfunctions. Had a couple of ACT mags and one Chip McCormick power mag.
Then I ran 25 rounds of Perfecta 45 acp fmj brass case zero problems. Then 100 rounds of Tula garbage steel case fmj. The 100th round it jammed, stove pipe.
The slide was gritty dirty with gunk. That ammo is the worse I have shot. I shoot it in AR's no problem and shot some 9mm but the 45 acp is like pouring coal dust into the chamber.
After that I loaded more federal aluminum case fmj. First three rounds had problems with slide dragging. After I blew out the gunk and wiped the slide down as best I could with a rag at the firing line (no oil) it ran the rest of that box out no problems.
Im very pleased.
I took out the full length guide rod and dropped in the old style. Also noticed a old metal form mag I had didnt always lock in and could be made to work loose.
I replaced the mag catch with a stainless one now all the mags work like they should.
