Unfamiliar with this gun. I have a local seller with one.  Can't seem to find a bad review. Would like to hear from those familiar with the brand.

I typed a long post and somehow hit the back button.
To make a long story short IMO they are awesome. The quality fit and finish is on par with much more expensive pistols; not that the STI is inexpensive.
I have a Guardian and so far it's been 100% and accurate.   Honestly I don't think you'll regret the purchase
Here is mine with the Nighthawk 1piece magwell MSH I just installed

Had the original Ranger, it was a great pistol, and accurate.

Wouldn't hesitate to buy another if  was looking.

here is a pic of the Ranger.  He wants to trade for my Sig P245 and $100

That's a fair trade IMO
Used p245 $550-650

If you end up not liking the STI getting all your money back shouldn't be a problem at all.

I've yet to meet anyone not impressed by their STI purchases, I have no doubt you would be happy with it if you get it.  I have an STI Elektra and I absolutely LOVE the gun.  Excellent quality, phenomenal accuracy, 100% reliability, great trigger, looks amazing... What else could you want?

Well, I'll go ahead and give you a bad review. The Ranger II I had was a complete piece of shit. Shit went bad from the very first mag. Never got a complete magazine fired without a FTE. The ejector broke within 4 mags.

Sent it back to STI, and the CS was excellent; I'll give them that. They tuned and polished and had it back to me quickly.

First mag on the return trip, and it was doing the same shit. Same problems with various mags. I gave up on it, and sold it to a guy with full disclosure. Bought myself a Colt, and never looked back.

Extremely unusual but everyone makes a lemon sometimes, doesn't reflect on them overall though.

sounds like they just replaced with new ejector and never actually test fired it. Not that it matters now but you remember what brand of ammo you were running through it?

update

Met today and got a look at the Ranger.  I decided to pass on the deal he wanted my P245 and 5 mags + $160 for the Ranger.  I am sure that isn't a bad deal but the Ranger just didn't jump out at me.

Thanks for all of the help

I was running a mix of WWB, Ranger T, and well made handloads that is run through several pistols without trouble; I made them.

And yes, I would agree that mine was an odd lemon, and not the norm. But it ruined them for me.

OP, are you set on a Commander size?

No I already have the new Ruger LW Commander.   I had listed the p245 for trade for a Colt when the STI was offered.

I dunno, the P245 has a price point significantly lower than the STI Ranger II and even with that trade plus $160, I'd go for it.  If I owned the Ranger, there's no way I'd trade it for a P245 plus $100.  I'm not sure I'd trade for one plus $160 unless I just had to have it.

Ok made the trade today and went straight to the range put 200 rds through it and it ate everything in 8 rd mags, however just like my Ruger LW Commander 7 rd mags with Speer Gold Dot had a couple of feed issues. Not sure what the deal is with that round in 7 rd mags. (yes they were different mags) no issues with 8 rd mags and no issues with Winchester ranger in the 7 rd mags. (either gun)

But overall with the Ranger I am pleased and plan to put some more rounds through it next week. Now to attempt to take it apart and clean it. I understand it is easier then it appears.

eta cleaning it was a piece of cake.  (thanks to the video on the STI site)

I had a strange thing happen with my Les Baer and 7 round mags.  Best I can tell, it doesn't like the follower.  It will feed all the rounds, but on the last one it will lock it up and push the slide stop pin out just enough to cause some major issues.

It appears that when the 7 round mag is empty, the follower sticks up above the feed lips.  It works find with any mag that doesn't have that feature.  My Baer really seems to like Chip McCormick mags.  Maybe even better than the Trip Cobras.
