Found one of these on the shelf at my local LGS. Its the version without the Pelican case and just the normal Colt pistol case. I looked up the Colt website and it seems as though this pistol is listed twice, and I'm guessing the one I looked at was the version listed in either the Law Enforcement section, as well as the 'rail gun' section of 1911 pistols. I'm a bit confused as to what the actual differences are in the rail gun version and the CQCP version, other than the case provided. Honestly I don't care much about what case it has but do care that the specs are the same so I'm hoping thats true. I know the version I looked at had Trijicon sights and not Novak Sites, which also confused me a little.

Any insight from the group on the differences between these two pistols?

The M45A1 has night sights and a Pelican case. That's the only difference.

I'd consider a LW Commander from before 1990 for 300 bucks but otherwise I'm not buying a Colt.
My decision is based on the following:
Price
Their giving in to the Gun control based lawsuits.  (See different AR pin size and Colt Smart Gun R&D programs.)
The appearance of their .45s after the test not that long ago by the military for purchase for certain units.

Edit to add
That's just me.  I'm feeling to negative today and this doesn't really adress your question. It's a free country so buy what you like.
They sure look nice though..........

The. Erosion I saw I believe had trijicon night sights. Will have to double check though.

The pelican cased version is a Colt Custom Shop variant. Plenty of information on a google search. Some of it is even correct.
They are not "the same".

I own the blue box version and was at a class where someone had the custom shop version. Under the grip on that version is a small ccs engraved on the frame. As I understand it the pelican case custom shop version is hand fit and comes with a test target. The blue box is not hand fit or accuracy tested. Mine still shoots very well. Trigger a touch heavier than the custom shop version. Also a five hundred dollar difference in msrp.

The slide/frame and small parts of the 2 version are the same except that Custom shop version have hand fitted barrel/bushing/trigger etc.

Be aware that Colt Custom Shop version still have some parts not fitted as you would normally see from custom/semi-custom 1911. For example, the beavertail grip safety was not blended well to frame tang. Mine has bevertail slightly undersized compare to the frame width. Another one is the trigger on my custom shop version have lots of up and down movement. It is so loose like a WWII 1911A1 stamped trigger even though the trigger pull is great. You can also see the ambi thumb safety is just a production parts, custom shop never bother to remove the metal casting line. Although those maybe cosmetic, some people will feel let down because custom shop version sell for $2100.

There is a difference between the rail gun and these.

Is the difference worth the price though?  Not to me. Not to mention the M45 looks like plastic mustard.

All future Colt Rail Gun produced in 2015 will have M45A1 style bulky rail on the frame and wider slide serrations. And have black finish. For those hate tan color, it would be a better choice to go with CRG made in 2015. The only thing I have not heard is whether new CRG will have traditional 1911recoil spring setup or the dual springs used in M45A1.

Derp. Checking again, both have night sights. I misread. My apologies.

I did not know this, glad I didn't pull the trigger on the rail gun in my LGS yet. Yes I am one of the tan haters and the huge "usmc" plastered on the side

Also for what it is worth for those that want as close to USMC issue as possible, the standard gun not the hand fitted is what is being provided to the corps. The idea of this gun being all interchangeable drop in parts. The previous m45's ( prior to this colt contract) were hand built and any breakage ultimately required return to the builders at quantico. They wanted new 45's that could be serviced at the unit level.
