I bought a new Colt Combat Commander XSE last fall.  Before I even brought it home, I was in contact with Alchemy Customs about having the gun "tuned" for me.  Once I had the gun, I ran a few hundred rounds through it to make sure it worked (it did).  I then boxed it up and sent it off to ACW.

I spoke with Rob on Monday and found out the work was finished and the gun was ready to ship out.  Today I'm waiting in anticipation for Fed-Ex to drop off the package.  So, while I wait I'll post a few pictures that ACW hosted on their facebook site.  I'll take my own pictures and have a range report at a later date (and change those OEM grips).

It was just dropped off.  Wow!  I'll post some pics later when I have time.  I sent the gun into ACW with the request to make the Commander a nice CCW gun.  Nothing orate, nothing flashy just something I can CCW daily.  I totally overspent my budget on the gun, but think it's worth it.

Here is the list of work Alchemy performed:

Tune for total reliability
Install Greider NM short trigger
Install Harrison TR sear /  Tune trigger to 4#
Install Ed Brown arched, serrated housing
Fit Wilson Bulletproof extractor
Serrate front strap 20 LPI
Install Heinie Straight Eight Ledge sights
Dehorn pistol for carry
Bead blast refinish (Presentation Grade)
Install custom EGW O.S. fps
Polish and tune original extractor for spare
Refinish both extractors in Colt spec satin nickel
Install 10-8 barstock plunger tube
Blend entire back of frame/slide
Reblend beavertail grip safety

Spent a few hours at the range today.  Fired about 150 rounds through the Commander with no issues of course.  I also brought a SIG TacOps out and wanted to compare felt recoil between the two.  The TacOps has a TLR-1 light mounted and a magwell MSH, so its heavier.  Of course the Commander felt like it recoiled more, but it wasn't as big a difference as I thought it would be.

I went with a set of LOK grips I got off Ebay.  They are G10 and very similar to VZ 320's.  I was worried they were too smooth but after shooting the gun, think they will work out just fine.  I know a lot of guys like checkered front straps and flat MSH but what I've found that works for me is the arched MSH.  It "wedges" the gun in my hand, and allows me a better grip than an aggressive front strap.

ETA:forgot to post my question....what made you choose serrations over checkering?

Personal preference I guess.  I've carried various guns over the years and found I like serrations (i.e. SIG 220ST, 220 Combat).  I do have a couple of full sized 1911 with checkering that's 25 lpi and 30 lpi.  Nice for a range gun, but I plan to CCW this Commander IWB, and didn't really want a "bastard file" next to my skin.

Dude...that is one SMART, CLEAN piece.  Nicely done by ACW.  I am impressed.

Very nice and well-thought out build. Looks like another great job done by Alchemy!
