| Ok let's hear Everyone's Opinion on 1911 Magazines and which ones are the best and why? I have had good luck with the Chip McCormick Power Mags and Hilton Yam Owner of 10-8 Performance Recomends CMC Power Mags. The Springfield Armory MC Operator I bought Today came with 2 Mecgar Stainless Mags. Anybody have any Experiance with the Mecgar 1911 Mags? I have had good Luck with Mecgars Double Stack Mags. |

For Now I will stick with the CMC Power Mags I bought 10 last Year so I'm good to go for a while. It would be Nice if We could get Your Thread Stickied so Guys like Myself won't have to ask and can just Click on the Thread. |

I don't think it will ever get stickied because let's face it stickied threads don't get read, but I think SGB set the thread to never go to archives and that is fine with me.
There is no best magazine, just the best for you. I didn't have great success with the almighty 47d and sold what I had. I have had better success with lowly Checkmate mags. The same ones that are put away in drawers unused by other guys because they are "factory mags" The few Tripps I have are great as well. The extended 8 round checkmate mags can also take Tripp kits and remain an 8 round mag vs the 47d that gets turned into a 7 round mag. I have one checkmate/tripp hybrid too just to see how it works and so far so good. |

Gun show mags in the brown paper wrappers cuz they're USGI and stuff ![]() ok just kidding Wilson, CMC, Mec-Gar, or Tripp are the go to companies. I tend to favor CMC because I didn't want to pay more for Wilson or Tripp, and I like the plastic base pad on their 10rd mags more than Wilsons with their welded on overtravel stop.

I've had issues with Chip Power Mags. Tried to get one replaced - they would only change the follower and spring. The follower STILL would get stuck down in the mag. It was so much trouble to get that done the first time that I just gave up and threw it away. I won't buy them anymore.
Tripp Cobra Mags are the only mags I will buy |

I've never really used anything other than wilson 47d until the ETM came out. My only gripe with the 47d was they were really hard to seat with 8rds in mag. The etm are slightly longer in body and will easily seat with 8 rounds loaded. Wilson's customer service is also great. I had an etm feed lip that was slightly bent because of being stepped on at an indoor idpa shoot. Called wilson Monday they told me to scrap the mag and shipped me a new one arrived Wednesday. |

I prefer CMC Power Mags; but the correct answer is whichever magazines run best in your particular pistol. THIS. Buy one of whatever mag you're considering and run it hard. If it continues to feed flawlessly after use, you'll have your answer. Personally, I've had great success with CMC Power Mag 8s. Older follower design, but they just plain run and run. |

I guess I am lucky, because my Commander and Gov't Model (both Colts) run best on Wilson Combat 7 rd. Service mags.
Doesn't matter what I am shooting, hardball, swc, or hollowpoints (HSTs). The cheap ass Service mags with their dimpled followers always work. I have tried the 47Ds, and the 47 HD+P mags, and the service mags just run better. I take that as a sign from JMB, to stick with what works, |

CMC mags have garbage followers and springs from factory in my experience. But replace them with Tripp Super7 kits, and you're good to go.
Checkmate also makes good 7 rounders, as does Tripp Industries. I don't like Wilsons. Springs wear out quick on 47Ds, and even the ETMs give up controlled feed. |

I have previously been using Power Mags and Wilson's but am now switching over to Tripp's Cobra magazines, both 7 and 8 round capacity. The Tripp's really seem built rather well, I would dare say better than either the Chips and Wilsons.
I also have used Night Hawks which ran flawlessly. Recently I also got a couple of the new Les Baer "Premium" magazines with a new Baer and they have run flawlessly too(which I hear is unheard of). Overall just initial quality I would have to say Tripps gets my vote and I will probably be purchasing 3-6 more in the near future. |

Mags that work best for me have been McCormick mags and Wilson mags. The ACT mags seem to be good to go, as I've gotten several of them over the last couple months. I tried some of the C Products mags and the Kimber mags and they don't function in ALL my 1911's, while the Wilson's and McCormicks do.
