So I picked up this new production Series 70 Reproduction today. I shot around 200 rounds through it after cleaning and lubing it. It has no problem feeding anything I load for it. And it can extract rounds solidly and reliably when the magazine is removed. But it ejects the rounds over my head to my 5 o'clock. It's not causing a problem or anything, I'm not catching brass to the face like the recent Glocks are known for, but I am still puzzled by this.

My two current theories are that the brass is bouncing off of the original height ejection port wall, or that the ejector needs to be tuned a bit. I see brass on the rim of the ejection port, so that makes sense. But so does ejector tuning. The extractor holds a case firmly to the slide, so I know that's good

Other than that one minor issue, this thing is amazing. It's like shooting on "easy mode". I can make hits that I really struggled with on other handguns. It's just so smooth.

It's doing what it's supposed to.  That's how the g.i. ported guns are supposed to eject.

It's not hitting you, so it's running properly.  I would NOT lower, flare, and scallop that port.  No good reason to.

That's the plan. If that's how they run that's how they run. I want to keep it as true to the original as possible.

It's amazing. I picked it up as a "Churched up" carry gun that would have the same year of manufacture as my daughters birth year. It's going to be carried at her baptism in a few weeks and to all my friends weddings.

I got a chance to really run it yesterday, and it's amazing.

Humm... I was always taught that the 1911 ejects at 3 o'clock if properly sprung. That's where mine ejects (until the last round that one is different/over the head).

If it bothers you I suggest you try a heaver recoil spring. On ammo going   850fps or over you should try a 18.5 Lbs. spring. they usually come with a 16 Lbs. spring.

That was my first thought. But upon looking at the brass closely, and watching the ejection pattern, the cases are clearly being slung into the ejection port wall. It has the brass marks to prove it and the case mouths have a flat spot from the impact.

I do plan on having a few extractors tuned and fitted for spares, and when the recoil spring is due a replacement, I plan on running 18# Springs. But right now, I'm just going to keep shooting the gun as it is. Feels so good, like shaking hands with Jesus.

If you are going to get into reloading (with .45 you should seriously consider it) the only thing that is going to fix the dings in the brass is lowering (and scallop) the ejection port.

I think that is the only way to stop the slide from putting the dings in the brass.
