So I ran into a original Colt Combat Elite for sale, and I've got some questions on it. First, owner claims that the low cut Novaks are original; I've never seen those on the old ones.

Second, it has a different hammer than I thought they came with; I thought the original round Commander hammer? The pistol in question has a blued oval hammer like the new model CE comes with.

Finally...for now, it has a 3 hole trigger. Again, I'm fairly certain that it did not come with that trigger. Owner claims that the previous owner had an Ed Brown Beavertail (obvious) professionally installed, but doesn't say anything about the 3 things that I find suspect.

I know that this place is a wealth of knowledge, so I thought I'd see what ya'll know. I kind of like the pistol, for a shooter, if it could be had at the right price. But I'm not paying the price for a genuine original when it's a bubba'd gun, whether pro or not.

I've asked if he has the build sheet on it; we'll see what he says. Wants $919 for it; I'm thinking a bit less.

ETA: Forgot to mention that it has a clearly aftermarket thumb safety, as well.

Depending on the generation, it could have came as you remembered it or it could have came as he claims. What is the year of manufacturer?

I've asked, so we'll see what he says. But I see 4 parts that clearly aren't original to any old CE that I've seen, and no build sheet.

From what I can see in the pictures he posted, the s/n is CG 14xx? Last part is blacked out, but it appears to have only 4 digits after CG.

Not sure what kind of build sheet the pistol would come with. Do the parts look like they are installed properly? Does the pistol function? I don't think Combat Elites are very collectable. Prices are pretty low on them used, at least around here. If you like the way the pistol is set up talk him down to a price you are comfortable with.

If I recall the older CE had the rubber wrap around grip in a pebble finish. Small carry style thumb safety. But I think they did come with a oval hole hammer.

It's online, so I can't get a good look at it.

The guy hasn't responded to my last email, so I'm fairly certain that I'm going to pass on it.

Here is the pistol in question:

Note the serial number. I believe this is what one should look like in that era

That's an aftermarket hammer, I have the same one on one of my Colts. IIRC it's an EGW.

Also, Combat Elites didn't come with Novaks to the best of my knowledge.

I think they did for a short time, there was some sort of dispute with Novak and they were discontinued.

I just acquired one a couple of days ago. According to the serial number I have (CG13xxxE), it was manufactured in 2011.
