Yea or nay? Getting the itch for a Commander and the Ruger seems to offer the best bang for the buck. No, I'm not dropping a grand on a Colt. I don't want one that bad.
Owned lots of Rugers over the years and always been happy with them. Never one of their 1911s. |

Friend of mine picked one up in stainless over the weekend - it's a true 1911, no firing pin block like the Colt Series 80s or newer "II" Kimbers; mag release is tall, so you don't have to struggle with the mag release and its built in the traditional way. I say go for it. |

My roommate has the commander, I haven't shot it, but just from handling it I have a few thoughts.
The attention to detail on the rails is nice. Love the beveling, I hate the sights for some reason, they just seem tall. Too tall. And that trigger is nice when you adjust it a bit to take the creep out. I'd say go for it. |

Have owned a number over the years, present inventory is two. An RIA I converted to a GI clone and a Springer RO. That thing is scary accurate and I don't see much of a reason to move beyond that level. I prefer my 1911s to be fairly basic. |

Echoing other comments, definitely best bang for the buck imo, Made in USA, lifetime warranty, Company with a solid reputation, etc - what's not to like? I'd take an SR1911 over any RIA/Citadel/ATI/Girson/Tisas/Metro, etc any day, Taurus too. Like any model with large production numbers, you hear of one having issues every once in a while, but Ruger will stand behind it if it does. Just a nice moderately enhanced 1911 you can buy and just shoot, without breaking the bank. That being said, I don't own one (have a few Smiths, LE pricing makes them hard to pass up, in fact the 108282 E-Series is only slightly more $$ with LE/MIL/1R pricing, and a nicer piece imo), but for $600 you can't go wrong with the Ruger.

| I need another 1911 like a hole in the head, been seeing a few of them floating around the local classifieds and have been tempted as of late, most of them seem to fall into the $600-650 range for guns barely fired if at all, I struggle with temptation daily though glossing through all the classifieds. |

I recently bought a full sized one, I already have a Colt Commander. When I
took it out to the range, I ran about a 100 rounds of ball and hollow points through it, no problems. Used the factory mags and Chip McCormicks. Ruger makes a decent product. I have a GP100 and a SR40c, I'm happy with all 3 pistols. |
