UPDATE ...STARTED ANOTHER THREAD AND BOUGHT THE RO

I want my first 1911.  My priorities are:

1.... affordable ($450 - $600), but I would go a hair higher for something that is worth it
2.....reliable
3.....best trigger for this price range (I can stone and polish rifles.  If the 1911 can be safely tweaked I can smooth things up myself and changes springs etc. with ARF.com advice)
4....reliable
5....fiber optic front sight, but I can swap this out myself for a little coin
6.... must work with wilson combat 10 round magazines
7....reliable

This will not be a self defense gun.  I may run it a little in IPSC or IDPA for the fun of it.  SO I want reliability.  I hate to be that guy that holds things up once the timer starts and I do not like having to fix a gun under the clock.

I don't do much target practice with my Glock 21 now.  I mostly shoot my 9mm Glock 34 and 22lr Ruger Mark II for practice.  So I don't see a high round count through a 1911 in my future.

I can get a Para Expert, Taurus PT1911, or any number or Rock Island Armory guns for under $450 out the door.  I don't konw anything about the RIA's and there are soo many guns near $600 that I know nothing about.

RIA, any model depending how much work you want to do.

If you want to do none and have the fiber front site you can get a RIA Match for under $700 and have the fiber front and adjustable rear sights.

The RIA Tactical has dovetails rear and front and is typically a lot less though.

RIA is consistently the best gun for the money.  Between working well, having great customer service and support, and as a company being very involved in competition and shooting it's a great buy. VERY few people are ever disappointed.

I don't want to invest much now.  I do not shoot much 45 cause of cost.  I have a lot of 45acp components to reload and my Glock 21 has not cycled most of my loads until max powder charge.  At least with a 1911 I could use some of that up.

If the 1911 platform grows on me I will later save up for an STI 40 go fast gun.  Otherwise I'll stick to my SUPER RELIABLE Glock 34 in IPSC.

Ahh, if you're looking for a cheap reliable 1911 to burn up ammo, the RIA GI is pretty freaking hard to beat.

For a $600 1911, the USA Made Ruger SR1911, with lifetime warranty would get strong consideration.  I see it on GB occasionally for sale at $599, but most shops sell in in the low-mid $600's i believe.

Although I am a S&W fan, and would choose the E-Series 108482 with LE discount for $675 first, the SR1911 is a nice package at the price point.

In the price range you listed, Rock Island Tactical or SA Milspec

That being said, I'd save up another $100 and get a Range Officer

RIA makes a heck of a 1911 for the money.  Mine has been flawless.

RIA.

If you really want to be super-spiffy, you can get a 9mm one, instead of .45, since you're already feeding a G34.

My (old) RIA GI 9mm was great for about 8k rounds, until I peened the frame accidentally. Always be sure what ammo you're shooting.

Now I'ma get a new one, this time without the frickin' billboard slide.

Have owned both the Taurus and RIA base model.  They worked fine.  Still have the RIA, I converted it to a USGI clone.

For a little more money the Springer RO is an amazing pistol.  Street price around here is the high 700's.

Used Norinco.

$250 to $500 or so.

Not the most refined, but tough and cheap.

Norinco.

Nice ones were 500+ though.

I would save a little more money and pick up one of the Springfield RO models. I just picked one up from CTD for around $750 shipped and picked up from my dealer. Plus, SA is offering three free magazines and a magazine holder for free after purchase.

NO pistol is guaranteed to work with Brand xxx magazine.
In your case 10 round WC mags

If you are at the limit on money, get a RIA Tac or Match.
If you can spend a bit more, get the SA RO.

I have to agree with the Range Officer but if you REALLY don't have the extra scratch go for a Ruger.  Very solidly built handgun with excellent fit and finish for a 1911 in it's range.

Rock Island Tactical Model in either 9mm or .45 ACP.  Also like the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec.

My vote was for Rock Island Armory.

I picked up a 9mm Tactical for $401 out the door a few weeks ago, and it's been flawless through 1200 rounds so far.

Use the remaining $200 for a nice set of grips and sights that you like (though the stock ones aren't bad)

ABSOLUTELY NOT TAURUS OR PARA!
RIA, I like the GI and it is WAY below your budget. I also want the 2011 wich is like a full house, loaded, all the bells and whistles gun.
I also like the Springfeld Mil-Spec. (prefere it to the loaded in fact. Loaded required mods to be reliable.)

No shit, RIA right now, is what Kimber started as.  A well made alternative to "Big names".

Taurus and Para are junk

My choice would be a Ruger SR1911 from GB, I saw one on there yesterday on sale for $599 with $20 shipping

Very high quality for the price and made 100% in the USA

RIA has tremendous customer service. Not only in terms of warranty coverage, but in terms of philosophy and attitude. They care about their customer and their experience. They WANT to make a firearm that works well, so that their customers can enjoy/rely on that product.

Give me a choice of 1911's all day long, I'll get an RIA.

I'd get the 2011 tactical models with adjustable sights and rail.

https://us.armscor.com/products/tac-2011-vz-45acp
Comes in 9mm and .45acp

Usually around $550-$600 when you can find them

I agree spend a little more and get the RO, if that is totally out of the question get the RIA tactical.

Whichever Armscor built 1911 suits your fancy would be a good choice... Not just sold under the RIA name, you'll find them with High-Standard, Citadel, STI, Cimarron and Taylor's rollmarks. And probably a few others I've missed.

The Cimarron's can be had in a polished blue finish, if that's your thing.

I have had a Para P-12 for years. It has always been accurate and dependable.

Ruger:  Can't go wrong with them.  Got both of these at $600 (each).  Great shooters; I carry the commander.

RIA:  Always wanted a full rail gun.  RIA fit the bill nicely.  Great to shoot, and only cost $500 (with night sights, 2 years ago).  Seen with TLR-1S and with its cousin, an SA

Both are great for the price
