I'm just about to put my deposit down on a WC Professional Lightweight with an extra couple or additional options.  Now I'm suddenly thinking about calibers.  On one hand, I think it's blasphemy to have a 1911 in anything other than 45, but now I'm thinking about going 9mm to avoid amassing yet another round since I recently just got an M&P Shield 9 to replace my XD 40 which I didn't like to carry.

The Shield is my stop gap until the WC comes in.  I'm just going back and forth now and I don't want to not get it in 9mm just because I've always had 1911s in 45.  Any thoughts would appreciated.

Even Wilson can't get their shit together when it comes to 9mm.

Get it in 45 or 38 Super.

well, there is a reason that the prophet John Moses Browning was told by GOD to make a pistol and chamber it in .45acp.

If you want 9mm in an 1911, 38 Super or 9x23 are much better choices.

Stick with 45...don't dick around and overthink your $3500 pistol.

Thanks guys.  Problem solved.  I'm not sure what I was thinking.  Has to be 45.  I'll save the 9's and 40's for my plastic guns.

45 was not JMB first choice for the 1911.

I shot a 9mm Wilson CQB over the weekend.

It ran absolutely fantastic. It was an instructors gun. With the ETM 9mm mags it ran like a champ and he said hes had zero problems out of it.

I also have a whole new respect for 9mm in general. A guy in that class put one through his leg reholstering. Never thought a 9mm ball round would leave that bad of a wound.

I want a 9mm 1911 now

Get a cheaper one if you want a 9 mil (like a RO or Trojan).

There's really a good reason most custom shops will only build 45, 10, and 38 super.

If you don't believe me, read the Wilson subforums on the 1911 sites.

Its not that I don't believe you. I have heard horror stories about 9mm 1911s as well that has kept me away from them.

But I will say that Wilson CQB I used this weekend in 9mm ran like a top. That's all Im saying

In 1990 or so, when I was still in college I used to shoot IPSC and Bob Cogan had built me this awesome comped out 38 Super.  I loved that gun.  Then when shooting got to be more of heavy steels, I went back to 45's.  That's when Wilson really was the first higher custom stuff being made available for drop in.  I had their drop in comp, mag well, and all that on a full sized Springfield.  Cool gun.  I'm hemming and hawing over a few last options, but will hopefully pull the trigger this week.  It's a lot of money and I just want to wait out the second guessing going on in my head.

1911 = 45 !

"On one hand, I think it's blasphemy to have a 1911 in anything other than 45, but "   No but about it.

I have a Stealth(.45), LINKY and feel very comfortable carrying it. It is a super soft shooter. First time I shot it I couldn't believe it's accuracy and how easy it was to make follow up shots. I didn't think I would like the compact frame, it has quickly become my favorite to carry on short trips

I've shot the Bill Wilson carry also and I would take my Stealth over it any day.

Nice choice OP!  I carry a Wilson lightweight pro bobtail myself and you are going to love it.

Thanks.  I think I'm pretty much decided.  I'm going with the Lightweight Pro... (no bobtail)  I'm adding the "BulletProof" magwell, countersunk slide stop and I'm adding serrations to the top and checkering to the back of the slide and around the front of the trigger guard.  I'm going back and forth on barrel types, but I resolve that.  It's just a lot of money and I want it to be exact.

I figure if I'm going to spend that much... what's a bit more to get exactly what I want.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
