Hello from Kalifornastan .  I have $1200.00 to spend on a .45, as I'm behind the iron curtain my choices are somewhat limited.
My main choices are Kimber, Colt , Springfield , Rock island and possibly 2 others (I haven't been to the Cal D.O.J. to check yet). What's the best bang for the buck?
I have an AMT hardballer longslide , but would like another pistol, for variety's sake.

Edit; We have a winner! The LGS had a Springfield stainless loaded @ $350.00 under my budget.
It looks like a very high quality piece, can't wait!

You can't go wrong with Colt.

I wouldn't rule out Sig 1911's.

I have Springfield and Colt. You get more for your money with a Springfield but you won't have a pony on the side of it.

For your budget, take a look at the Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator or a Dan Wesson Heritage.

The best gun in that price range are the colts, but they will have the least "features".  Features being debatable.

If you like "features" on a gun, look at S&W's 1911 lineup.  I'm pretty sure that a lot of their 1911's are still on your commie roster.

Heritage Is really, really nice.

I'm trying to save for a valor, but the heritage keeps calling out to me.   I do like it's matte/polished finish and flat top more than the valor, but the valor has the checkering and a better resale value.

Gotta go Colt.

Springfield TRP is a solid gun in that price range

Colts, Kimber's, S&W.....but I would recommend STI.  You should be able to find one in that range, the down part is because they are hand fit, hand finished and extremely well put together so unless you happen to find one for sale somewhere, it takes about three months to get one.  Every gun they have built and will build for the next three months are already spoken for hence the wait.  Mine took every bit of 3 months to get but the gun is beautiful, 100% reliable and extremely accurate.  A little pricey but you'll get a gun that has all the hand fit, polished, and finished work that costs 3x as much from makers like Ed Brown or Les Baer.  If you can afford a Les Baer go that route but if you want to get really, really close for significantly less money check out STI.

This is mine (they come in other colors) it's an STI Elektra .45acp, Heinie Straight Eight Trijicon sights, factory Cerakote finish, stainless match bull barrel and full carry treatment.  It's perfectly reliable, amazingly accurate, lightweight and easy to conceal.  Not cheap but they are high end 1911's &2011's at less than what other brands charge.  At such point that I can afford another 1911, it'll be another STI.

I vote Colt

Look at XSE models , these have many of the upgraded features of a modern 1911

If I could add another I would look at Sig - some very good values if you shop around. Recently ran promos on certain 1911s where you got a free 1911-22 LR with a qualifying purchase

If you could find a Dan Wesson in your budget , they are very nice.

All that being said. I prefer Colt. I bought a Railgun for less than your budget. It's a great pistol basically the same as the new marine M45 pistol minus the cerakote

Good luck. Don't fret too much , lots of good 1911s out there

It sounds like some ppl  ITT don't know how purchasing a pistol in Kali goes.
Are all those guns on their DOJ list?

Lots of great guns in that range. Colt xse or rail gun, used Springfield TRP or Opperater, DW, or any of the S&W E series models. They are great guns.

FWIW:

I just bought a Kimber TLE, love it.

It falls off the Kalif approved list in a few months..

Less than what you have to spend, you'll
have cash left over for mags and other stuff.....
