Well been wanting a 1911 for quiet some time now...but couldn't ever justify spending 800$+ on something that im only gonna punch holes in paper and sit on the nightstand.

So, after a thread on GD about Rock island armory 1911 on buds, and also offering a layaway plan, i finally pulled the trigger on the 1911a1 GI model.

Picked it up couple days ago, field stripped it to clean all the shipping oil off and greased it.  I haven't got to shoot it yet but I absolutely love this gun.  Now im starting to consider spending money on a quality 1911.

I know this gun isn't the worlds greatest, but everyone speaks so highly of it for a budget 1911.  Who knows, I may strip it down completely, learn how everything goes in, functions and I may upgrade the trigger and hammer down the round.

First thing I plan on doing is changing these ugly ass thick grips they put on it

Here is a quick photo with shit editing...im still learning lightroom LOL

Dang, here I was thinking the grips looked ok.

Any way to buff out that laser etching on the slide?

Nice  1911! Congratulations on making the move.

The Kuhnhausen books will take you just about anywhere you'd ever want to go with the 1911.

Between Brownell's, Midway, Wilson and EGW you'll never want for parts.

Most folks may tell you to shoot it for about 1000 rounds, take it down and polish up the wear marks and you'll be gtg.

Well, got bored tonight because im having to stay up all night because i work nights.

Torn down the 1911 and removed every piece from the slide, and the frame.  everything came off easy.

Im glad I did this because there was still some shipping oil in the frame and on some of the parts, i was able to clean everything off.  Took maybe 10 minutes to strip it down, 30 mins to do a quick clean, and 15 minutes to put everything back together.

I also polished the trigger bow with compound as well.  seems a little smoother but very minuet.

ETA: Also, you can use casey birchwood aluminumblack and black out that logo q

Did RIA finally quit using their "billboard" of a slide logo?

They don't on the a1. Not sure about the tactical.

I have been intrigued to change the hammer trigger and beaver tail safety.

Also been thinking of doing it in stainless steel color

First thing I need to do is change the sites but I need that staking tool

Glad you are happy with your purchase but get out there and shoot it, too.

Finally got back into the 1911 game Friday and picked up the 5" Tactical and four Wilson Combat mags.

Ran like a raped ape, dead on accurate

Soon as my 1911 shell for my Old Faithful hybrid comes in I'll be GTG.

I used the cold blue touch up pen on my VZ Tac thingy 10mm with the giant billboard... Covered it up pretty well after four applications over an afternoon.  Reoiled it and it looks pretty good... Not gone, but much improved.

I purposely held off on buying because it's so freakin' gaudy imho. The bad thing is that on the Compact Tactical their site shows both styles. I spoke with them on they changed designs. The new models have the small logo at the rear of the slide and polymer grips instead of wood. At least that's on the 1911-A1 CS. Not sure about the other models.

Congrats to the OP. I took mine out for the first time last night.

So no trouble getting the firing pin out? I can't for the life of me get the stop to budge.

That's on the 'to do someday' list....  Once I get off my rear and bother to push the sights off, I'll detail strip it and finish it.  Thinking burnt bronze slide/frame and matte black tiny parts.

Nice

I have my eye on my first 1911 later this year, probably will go for the Tactical model which is in the $450's at Buds.  Going to use it for USPSA/IDPA.

Well, I was able to get to the range again after work. Put 200 more rounds through her. Tonight the firing pin stop came off easily. Guess it just need to be loosened up a bit.

Glad to hear...I was able to go Wednesday to put 400 rounds in between me and my gf. I think she likes it enough to take it over and keep it

Maybe I'll get my p229 back

I did find new grips for it that I like
