So as you can see I live in CT hence one of the most absurd thread titles ever.

That being said I am in search of a Pre-Ban 1911 (Pre 9/13/1994 manufactured) to use as a suppressor host.

Ideally, I'd like a Govt, 5".  What do people recommend? What $$ range am I looking at? Also, is there any way to check the dates on any of the to-be recommended 1911's? I tried to search GunBroker, but Pre-ban and 1911 are not 2 keywords that go together.

I am not looking to spend a ton of money, I just want to get one before my POS state changes the law,

Id go on cabelas and look at their gun library. Most of the time they do not hide the serial number (or atleast cant read it) find one that might look that age (sometimes they list what year) and call the company.

That's how I was able to find out when my Delta Elite was before I even saw it in person.

Look for a pre-series 80 Colt. The Series 80 started in 1982 if I recall. Easiest way I can think of.

Probably the cheapest possibility, and a great base gun.

Just get an old Colt or Norinco.

What about an Argentine Sistema?

Thanks for the input guys. That is the info I was looking for. Sounds like finding a Argentine Sistema, Norinco or Springfield are my best options.

Oh boy. Does this mean there are "Pre ban" 1911 mags now? I guess 8 rounders are now "high cap" in NY.

SARCO out of PA has Sistemas.  They are beat to shit, but the price is right, they are built right, and made out of very high quality parts. If you want something that will not need to be brought back to life from military use/abuse, then finding a LNIB Norinco on gunbroker will go for $550-$600.  Colts will be about $700 but will be built during the dreaded "strike years".  Colts from before the strike years start to get expensive again as you go further back in time.  Very late 70's (78-80) guns is about the cutoff from affordable to "classic" prices.

Get one of those as a base gun, take it over to JoJo's in southington and have them put some decent sights on it and refinish it.  They can also change out any tired springs and set up the barrel/bushing, and springs proper for suppressed use.

I grabbed a threaded Remington R1 before the ban went through, but sold it to someone last minute before the door closed.  THAT was an ideal 1911 suppressor host for $770 I had into it.  You'll be in for a bit more even with a "previously well-loved" 1911 set up for suppressed use.

I am kicking myself for not moving on this sooner to be honest. That is why I am doing it at least now.. Hell.. it is gonna be a year till my suppressor gets out of NFA jail anyways.

Man, that Rem R1 threaded is a perfect host.  At least if I get a preban I don't have to reg it... yet.. hence, why I am locating one now.. BEFORE the asshats in Hartford do anything more to screw us.

Anyone have any input on a threaded barrel brands?

Colt from the 60's or the Series 70. The one's built in the 60s were extremely nice. You may pay more for it but you'll get your monies worth. The series 70s can be nice but you HAVE to be able to physically inspect it before buying. Do not buy anything that had been "customized" or "modified" unless the seller can absolutely prove [with receipts if possible] it was done by a major name smith, there were just to many ruined by backyard bubbas.

Look for a WW1 or 2 commorative, sometimes they can be snagged for decent money, are lightly used, if at all, and they really were built extremely well. As long as you can overlook the cheapo looking roll engraving, you'll be hard pressed to find better for the money. [they are usually cheaper then a lightly used standard govt of the same era without the ugly markings] One nice thing, the roll engraving is usually VERY lightly done and it'll likely disappear with a refinish taking A modicum of metal off.
