| I have a quarter i keep flipping over 2 guns. SA trp and a dan wesson valor. It is not a carry gun, hd gun...its a present to myself because im 'merican and i deserve it. I am clueless about 1911's (the finer points). Am i looking at equals here or does one have "better" parts than the other. I just dont want to buy one...have to put $200 into it to make it as good as the other. |

I like the TRP better. Springfield customer service is awesome. If you shop around you can get an Armory Kote TRP for $1300. I have never seen a Valor locally.
If ypu want black go Springer for $500 less. If you want stainless both are around 1.5K so I'd do either one. |

I have a VBOB and Valor, as well as a TRP.
The DW is a notch above the TRP in terms of quality and finish. But the TRP is no slouch either. Both guns are very accurate and feel very solid. There are no MIM parts in the Valor, but there are a few cast ones (slide stop and grip safety I think?). But I also don't think tool steel parts are required for a damn good gun either. I would still choose the Valor, for the following reasons: 25 LPI checkering, as opposed to 20LPI on the TRP Standard guide rod, as opposed to the two-piece in the TRP No front cocking serrations Roll marks are subtle, not overbearing like the TRP The TRP is going to have a better warranty though, Dan Wesson is still only 2 years. This counts for a lot. |

This is really what im trying to figure out...is one a better quality for the money. Quoted:

Both are nice pistols, but I will give the edge to the DW. It's a step up in quality. This is really what im trying to figure out...is one a better quality for the money. If you want specific examples of both pistols side by side, let me know. From my post above, the Valor trigger is also better than the TRP. The TRP trigger is crisp, but very heavy compared to the valor. |
| 2 cents I am reading you want this for home defense and not carry. The Springfield TRP can be had with or without rail. If you are looking for a non railed weapon between the two listed Dan Wesson for the win. If you are looking for a railed 1911 then look at the Dan Wesson Specialist. It seems the DW's are harder to find compared to the Springfield but you would be happy with one or the other, |
| OP, DW is just as "American" as Springfield. I think the DW actually uses all American-made parts. Beyond that, the small parts quality on the DW is much better, and things like the grip safety fit will likely be noticeably better as well. I would go DW, given those two options. |

In anyone's opinion, would you buy a DW sight unseen off the EE? I have a Valor and bought a Heritage last week as a base pistol. I went off the pictures in the ad and the fact the seller was an FFL. I would buy another Valor if I wanted an identical pistol. As far as answering the OP's question though, I can't comment. I have never handled a TRP |

I was debating the same question between a TRP, Valor/Specialist from DW. The TRP is too "busy" looking for me, I want a single sided safety, standard 2 piece recoil plug/guide and no magwell personally. So that knocked out both TRP and Specialist. Yeah, you can swap the parts out for not much $$, but it's still a pain. I decided to look for a Valor since I already have a Valor Bobtail. I already have a full size railed Caspian Recon :) I ended up finding a used, Les Baer Custom Carry Hard Chrome in excellent shape for a good price, so I ended up going with that instead of the Valor, but I will prob. end up with a DW CCO or something along those lines as well.
DW has a cleaner finish on it, better small parts quality, better trigger pull usually, and just feels more refined and looks better IMHO, like the other guys have said. The TRP is a pretty dang good pistol, but based on my preferences, I prefer the DW; I feel it's just a bit better. |
