If you own a 5" Dan Wesson 1911 how tall is your front sight?  Just picked up a specialist with an approx. .175" front sight and after 300 rounds I am shooting consistently about 2-3" low.

Not sure what to make of the straight eight sights as I'm used to a 3-dot sight. I want to like them and am trying to adjust to them. Should I just adjust POA or get a .140 front sight on there?

I just bought a Dan Wesson Specialist about a month ago and have about 1k rounds through it.  Mine is right on as far as POA and POI.  I will measure the front sight tomorrow.  I am ridiculously impressed with the gun so far.

I am too. Love the way this thing is put together and am willing to figure these sights out.

Shooting at what distance?

10 yards. Always a nice little group 2 inches below and slightly to the left of POA.

My Valor shoots about 1 inch low at 25 yards.  This is a big change from my Kimber which was dead on at 50 yards.  I do not know the height of my front sight, but I will check.

Here's my experience with DW front sights:

As I noted in the thread, the front sight on my Valor was .190 and hit dead on with a POA hold.

I've been emailing DW and am trying to figure this out. I may just dump these sights all together and slap some 3-dot sights on there. Maybe some trijicon HDs.

Make sure you are aligning the sights not the dots! Carefully align sights equal height and light ignore the dots and see where you hit - often focusing on the dots can often cause  the front sight to be a little high or low of the front sight and cause elevation issues
