In a Call of Duty cheesy novelty kind of way. Recover Tactical 1911 "grips".

And what if I had a 1911 that didn't have a rail and this offered me the chance to add one, then remove it when ever I wanted?   Like I said, I like it

This allows you to add a light and/or laser to your existing, trustworthy 1911 for 50$, instead of spend 1000$+ on a new pistol just to gain a rail? What's not to like? One of the comments at the link pointed out you can sand/stipple it to your liking, just like the Glock folks do.

Somewhat interesting... but mainly that.
Does it then fit a standard "1911 5" Railed" holster?... if so... might be interested a bit.

I like it.

However they should just go for the gold with integrating the laser and/or light right off the bat because they can put the pressure pads and wiring right in their molds. Unless maybe they've thought of that and CTC or someone else already has too much of the IP and patents sewn up.

I'm guessing no, due to the added bulk on the front of the trigger guard.

The rail looks awfully low too.  I don't see these fitting in any railed 1911 holster not specifically made for it.

and this is why I shall probably buy a railed frame and build from there... and then get a Raven light bearing holster to be refit to match it.

I'm intrigued by the idea. Like said a cheap way to mount a light rather than chunking down a thousand clams. Would be a cheap way to get a light mounted .45 auto nightstand gun.

What concerns me is how they might bulk up the grip. I don't like the "feel" or thickness of Pachmyer wrap around grips and these look "fatter" or "thicker" than those.

it'd work for adding a rail, but so does the surefire and so does the TICK. I think stream light makes one for that too.

sure, here's a quick writeup that I found when I was looking

http://ezine.m1911.org/Tick_frame.htm#update

here's the companies link to buy it
http://www.trgear.com/shop/ez-rail-1911-colt-45s#tab-description

here's the surefire one, a lot of guys on the 1911 forums have given those good reviews
http://www.surefire.com/mr07-mounting-rail.html

or here's a permanent option I went with on one of mine, has to be drilled/tapped though.

Here's one from Crimson trace I've really been wanting to try

Found myself wondering "isn't the Dawson Rail offered anymore"? If not, I do like the looks of that Novak.

As to this thing, maybe a Blade Tech holster would work, but I doubt it. Maybe reheating a Kydex rig (with a light) would work. As to railed night stand guns, I've got my Desert Warrior w/SureFire X200B. My PX9109 has a Clip Draw and a semi permanent locked box residence in my vehicle. The Micro Compact is too small (and this defeats that) and the CQB or Series 70 Colt? Not on yer life.... I'll pass, thanks. Still, interesting to see.

no I'm afraid it's not. I looked for it, I got ahold of Dawson too. The upside of the Novak is it doesn't require a specific light. I'll see if I can dig up some pics when I get to my laptop in a bit. It actually is nice except for the holster thing. I had to go the custom kydex route.

Another +1 for the Novak rail.  The one issues I've run into is that it's just a hair taller than frames with integral rails, so any holster for railed 1911s will be a tight fit.

[#46]
If it holds a light and is solid, I see it as a product of function over form. No permanent modifications are required, it doesn't hang off the trigger guard and scratch up the frame and no reason to buy another gun if you want to use an already purchased 1911 for HD.
