changing the factory flat spring for a wolff 18.5
do I need to change the recoil spring guide? If I don't will it cause any damage to my 1911? |

You're speaking of changing the recoil spring, yes? If so, then no, you won't need to change much of anything at all.
Allow me to suggest you look at silicon springs from ISMI (I think). Supposedly they last a LOT longer than standard piano wire springs. My .o2 |

yes the recoil spring
Wolff says "While chrome silicone is an excellent material, it is a softer material and does not offer the tensile strength of our proprietary HTCS spring material (the material from which most of our springs are produced from)." so I don't know witch to get now maybe I should get both

| another vote for ISMI....back when I first started practical shooting games, a .45 was about the only game in town... we tried a lot of combinations... progressive wound, square wire etc...the best recommendation was to tune your pistol... Wolff offered a pack of calibration springs... load only one round in magazine, shoot limp wristed, weak hand, and choose the spring that would eject brass at least 6" and lock slide back... I shot a lot heavier spring than most to help negate muzzle flip...find a spring you like and measure the wire diameter... |
