| This issue is happening with a brand new RIA compact .45 . Has anyone heard of this issue? Help! |
| That's a new one for me. Couple of questions. Does this happen with one mag or all mags? Does is happen with empty mags or loaded or both? Does it happen when dry firing or live shooting or both? Have you field stripped and cleaned the pistol? Cleaned/lube the mag release externally and internally, plus examined it for any apperant defects? |

My cousin had a double stack 1911 in .45 acp that would drop the magazine when it fired. We found the magazine release just barely caught the edge of the magazines. You could see this when you locked the slide back and inserted an empty magazine. We took the mags. apart and used small round files to open the hole in the side of the magazines up just enough to allow the mag. catch to fully "grab" the magazine.
He sold the gun later anyway as it also had accuracy issues (according to him). I don't remember the brand but I do know he traded it for a Para Ordnance P14. |
| Wonder if the mag catch is not correctly made/machined and is a bit oversize. I'd bet it's MIM or cast. I'd take the mag release apart and inspect it carefully for a burr and that it's correctly made. It's a very simple part to take apart as long as you realize it is NOT a screw but a slotted catch. |
