There's a local shop with a Detonics Combat Master and I'm thinking about buying it.  Not because of any specific need, just because I grew up reading Ahern's "The Survivalist" and seeing Sonny Crockett blast druggies with one.

I've heard good things and bad things, but this isn't going to be an EDC pistol.  I've got 5 other 1911's in Officer, Commander and Government models, should I get this Detonics?

Cool collector's piece/range gun. Not so much as a working gun. Having said thatc I'd like a Scoremaster some day.

Why waste your money, you have 5 others.

Because 6 is better than 5?

Detonics are just too weird for me.  The forward-mounted rear sight and the cut for "thumb cocking" run counter to my thoughts on 1911 operation.   I'm also no fan of Officer-sized frames.

That said, if you are interested in one and the price is right, go for it.  Nothing wrong with having a few conversation pieces in the collection.
