Got my hands on a Range Officer today at the lgs, looking for another 1911, and this thing is rough feeling, didn't seem to have a good frame to slide fit at all. Was it just this gun or is all of the lower end SA like this. I assume a few hundred rounds after a good clean and lube would help but was very put off by this. Anyone have one. What about the mil-spec,

It must be your gun. I bought a new one about 3 months ago and it was slick as glass right out of the box. That gun is basically a stripped down TRP. Hine has been scarey accurate and 100% reliable so far anyway. Only put just over 2,000 rounds through it so far but I am very happy with it.

Sometimes the rough finish on the guide rod can give that impression as the recoil spring drags over it.

My parked milspec has a tighter slide/frame fit than my Colt 1991. Runs real good though.

It seems tighter all the way around. (it is a NM prefix)

Sometimes doesn't lock the slide back on the last round with Wilson mags, but all my others (Colt/springer factory, Novak marked Act mags) it does every time.

I have heard very little critical of the RO. (not everyone loves the rear sight, but I think it is Harrison? that makes a nice fixed replacement)

I like mine. It feels good.  It sits next to several Colts and it fits in just fine.

If you're looking for the smoothness of fit of something like a Baer or Brown, you're not gonna find it in a RO.  At least not in my RO. That said, however, the fit isn't "rough", it's just not glassy smooth.  If it's rough, like there's sand on the rails, that's not normal and a hundred rounds through it should have taken care of it.

You described it exactly, no I've not bought it yet but might give it a go. BTW was in there to get a used TRP they had got in missed it by 1 hour, better luck next time

I bought mine on the EE here for $700 shipped to my FFL.  Most are selling for $800+ around here in the stores.

Lgs had one for 868$ with a nm serial prefix. Overall it has good reviews.

Where are you at in KY?  Here in Louisville they aren't cheap but interested in where you saw one for that price.

Not in KY anymore(at least for now) living in Ohio found it up here, for the most part about everything I'm seeing up here is cheaper. I bought a new 92fs a couple weeks ago for $525 otd with an extra beretta 15 round mag.

I have one and haven't had a single problem.  The trigger is really good and no fails.

I'm sorry I traded mine away. It was one heck of a good shooter.

Just picked up a RO yesterday and the fit/finish seem excellent. Been raining here since then so no chance to see how it shoots.

Best time to shoot at my range is in the rain.  Keeps the Fuds away.

I just bought one this afternoon and paid $849 for it.
