Anyone with any experience with an STI Spartan. I have read some good reviews on the web, but I am just wanting to get some long term opinions.

Thanks.

I fondled an sti spartan 9 at a local shop, and wasn't impressed with the trigger. I thought sti internals were supposed to be good.
I thought it felt gritty.

I would say its a combination on that model.

1. The armscorp frame/slide is most likely not seen the attention the higher end sti models have. Run a stone doen thru the trigger tracks in the frame.

2. The internals may be sti but are they fitted or just dropped in? Pull them out and run them over some 400+ sandpaper to deburr in the traffic spots.

reassemble and its a totally different gun I am willing to bet you. The quality is there but they just do not put the effort in on this model they do in the high end models. I like to think of this as the diy model, all the parts are there but YOU have to tune it.

Had one for over six months now and am happy with it. No problems so far, but a little holster wear. Also bought new mags.

Ive shot a friends and was very impressed with the fit and finish.  Groups were equally impressive.  Gun feels just like any other 1911 but would put it ahead of most others in that same price range.

Great pistol for the price.  I had two and sold one.  Both were great I just needed the money.

I have one in 9mm. Shot it in an IDPA match and had several malfunctions which were related to the extractor. I have since replaced the extractor with an Ed Brown and all is well.
As others have said it may need some tuning to be 100% reliable.

Thanks for the input guys.

I got a chance to stop at the gun store that has one, so I could fondle it a bit. The fit of the slide to the frame was nice, no play in eother direction. The trigger was super sweet. The counter guy was very helpful and let me compare the trigger and fit with other 1911 makes/models. He explained how to Identify the difference between series 70 and 80 1911s. The STI Spartan is a series 70, and the trigger was better than any of the series 80 pistols, which was all of the other 1911s they had. I was impressed with the fit and the trigger, not that that means much from someone who has limited 1911 experience.

The only complaint in the online reviews was that the factory mag was garbage. This gun comes with a Metgar (sp?) magazin. e, which he said was a decent brand.  Is this the same mag the reviewers are speaking of, or did STI decide to replace the original? Some of the reviews online were older.

All in all the gun is going for about $700.00 plus tax. They have a range, so you also get a free hour at the range. With (2) Wilson Combat Mags and tax I'll be at $800.00.  Seems like a fair price from an LGS.

I have a Spartan in 9mm. Really great range toy which is what I use it for, so far it has been reliable and very accurate. I shoot mine a lot.

Both me and a coworker have Spartans, and we like them.  No hiccups so far.

I haven't shot the Spartan but I have an Elektra which is an awesome gun.  Mines been perfect and an extremely fine example of a 1911 and everyone I've heard from that owns an STI of any model loves them.  Wish I could afford another one.

The Spartan, while it may have a rough edge or two, is a solid performer in its price range.  About four years ago I tuned one up out of the box for a friend and the only thing it really needed was to have the chamber reamed a bit for his reloads.   If you're shooting factory ammo exclusively, I doubt you would ever have a problem.

Since then, he has put at least 20,000 rounds through it and recently gave it back to me for a checkering job and a refinish.  The original parts were still installed and he reported it was working fine.

Does the Spartan take different bullet shapes ?
I would like to use lead cast semi wadcutters, will these give problems on the feedramp ?

No, they shouldn't be a problem.

I was just at Cabellas a couple of hours ago, they had 3 of the 4" in 9mm and 1 3" in 9mm your choice $699.00. I almost bought one, and I may still it was very nice for the price point.
