| Has anyone tried this Wilson drop in beavertail? I don't want to cut the frame on my GI frame but would like a beavertail for better comfort while shooting. I do know that I'd have to also install a commander style hammer. |
| I have one on a stainless commander. They are specifically made to line up as well as possible with the lines of a Colt 1911. That is why some other brands look different or have a larger gap. They are not a true drop in as the engagement tab on mine had to be slightly fit and my frame was sticking out farther than the grip safety once depressed. I would classify it as an east fit part rather than a drop-in. |

I put one on my stainless Commander.
I DO NOT like the way it looks at all, but it's no worse than the original duck-bill that was on the early XSE Commander. a-bare ETA: I'm glad it happened to be stainless, beacause aside from the normal fitting of the engagement area, the width (where it rides inside the grip tang) needed to be taken down a little because it was rubbing enough to bind a little. It was easy enough with emory cloth, but had it been blue............ a-bare |
