Im not wild about the two peice rod. Sometimes it unscrews abit. Which one peice guide would work? Can I us any rod for a full size 1911

Just replace it with a GI guide rod setup. The FLGR doesn't add anything and makes it harder to field strip.
If you want to keep it any FLGR will fit. I think the 1-piece and 2 piece use different plugs.

In the future I'm considering a Springfield champion 1911 and didn't like the 2 pc flgr that comes with it so I've been looking at alternatives. Wilson comat makes a nice alternative but u still need a paperclip/pin. Dawson precision make an ingenious solution I found. It's tooless and They make it for bushing barrel or bull barrel. It's $70 compared to the Wilson which is $40 but if u don't mind the price it's a good solution.

Run with USGI setup IMO. Solved.

You can only use the USGI as long as it's a non bull barrel gun because otherwise there isn't a bushing to use.

Newb question, but what's the problem with the TRP's 2 piece guide rod?

My experience:

1). The thing would unscrew during use unless loctite was used

2). The spring plug had a sharp edge that would slice my thumb during reassembly

3) An extra tool was required for disassembly

4) it served no known useful purpose over the classic g.i. guide rod and plug

Interesting.

Just got my 1st 1911, a TRP.

I didn't have any trouble with mine unscrewing but, it did slice up my thumb pretty good. It has been replaced with a Wilson Combat GI setup.

First modification I made to my TRP, GI set up all the way.

The slide is cut for a bushing though.
It of course would require fitting, but the TRP Operators will take a standard setup

Sure would like to have all the FLGRs you guys don't want.

I couldn't give anything for them but I'm sure I could find them good homes.

IM for my address.

I have a TRP Operator and this is exactly what I am doing the OEM setup in my opinion is the weak point of this gun.

I put a Wilson FLGR in mine

I cut the rod on the front and locktate the tread. There is about 1/8" left in the Allen wrench cavity to unscrew it but now I can dissemble it without that

I have a TRP, I swapped the 2 piece for a Wilson Combat stainless GI plug and guide rod. It works fine, no change in accuracy whatsoever and now I can take it down without tools. I got mine through Brownells.

I have a TRP Operator (with bull barrel) and would like to go to a GI set up to rid myself of the need to use a tool to field strip the gun.  Short of opening up the slide where the barrel sticks out or replacing the barrel with a non-bull barrel what kind of fitting are you talking about.  Sorry if the question is obvious.

thanks in advance

You will need to replace the barrel have it fit to the frame, slide and your new bushing to the slide barrel. Then you can install the USGI set up.  Not worth it in my opinion.
