I have an old 1911 (not an A1) which I bought back in the Reagan years. Apparently a bunch of 1911s had been lend-leased to China in WWII and then returned; this was one of them.
The frame is marked Ithaca. The frame and slide have some mild pitting, and are parkerized. The barrel is not original. What's the minimum price on this gun? It shoots very reliably. eta I got it for about $260 and did some minor smithing on it. |
| frame would not be marked ithaca but FJA for frank j atwood inspector. it would be an A1 as ithaca made only a1's not straight 1911's. I assume it is also import marked. as such 500 bucks would be fair. if it is not import marked for some reason then price up to 700 |
| Perhaps its a M1911 with an Ithaca slide, fairly common rebuild, which would have been Parkerized at the time of the rebuild. Don't know how the China connection affects value, but safe to say it would not detract. Is the barrel USGI from any period? If so, it would be 'correct' as any USGI barrel is expected in a rebuild. The Ithaca slide would have originally had a High Standard barrel (most likely, some others were used) which has 'H S' and 'P' on the lower lug. Are there any arsenal marks on the frame on either side around the trigger, like 'RIA'. 'SA', ANAD', 'OG', 'BA', 'AA', etc.? This tends to document it as a U.S. rebuild. Grips typically would be WWII brown plastic, and it may have any combination of M1911 and M1911A1 small parts, including trigger and mainspring housing (back strap). Got any pictures? How about a serial number? |

it is a standard a1 slide and looks to be a complete (less the replaced parts) if you have the correct parts in the condition pictured would probably be a 700 dollar gun. with the replaced parts it drops value to 5-600
on these old GI guns the more parts replaced the lower the value goes. |

Screw the bills, keep the gun, Obama will pick up the tab! Not true, I am a working American who has never been on the public dole. (Unemployment insurance is not the public dole.) Believe me, I'm trying everything I can to keep it... the bills come in faster than the paychecks do. I figure I need 2 1/2 paychecks every month, and I only get 2. |
