Ok guys I need some input. I have a colt combat commander that my father left me a number of years ago, it has a brushed nickel finish which I think looks rather cheap but thats me. I would like to have it refinished with cerakote in the army's current ACU camo colors. I'm keeping the pistol and have desire to sell it so the value one way or another doesnt bother me. I just wanted to kinda give it a more modern look. So what says the hive mind on this matter?

If there is no sentimental value to the look of the pistol (wanting to keep it the way Dad had it), then my vote is to go for it. If it will make you happy with the way it looks, what's stopping you? As far as reliability, you shouldn't have any issues. Ceracote has a good reputation for durability and should hold up pretty decently to "normal" holster wear and tear.
Bottom line, what's going to make you love the gun more? How Dad had it, or what you want it to be? Answer that question and you've solved your dilemma. Good luck, and please post before and after pics.... Gun porn is always appreciated. -Tac |

The only caution is that paint type finishes don't adhere as well to the satin nickel finish as well as they do to bead blasted bare metal.
Satin and especially bright nickel are "slippery" and don't give the coating a good bond. The old Colt satin nickel was applied over a lightly bead blasted surface so adhesion may be good enough to last fairly well. |

Thanks for all the input guys. I don't have any sentimental value on the way the pistol looks now, thats why I'm looking into having the pistol refinished. After the ACU camo my next color was going to be black but IDK about that yet. I've already checked into a service and the pistol would be sandblasted before the new finished was put on the pistol. Thanks again guys.
