I took my new SIG TacOps to the range today. Pistol wouldn't cycle. FTF/Failure to return to battery. I'm not a pistol nor 1911 guru. But I initially cleaned and lubed the pistol. Malfunctions started immediately on round 3. I tried several different magazines and brands of ammo; ranging from ball, HP and LRN. Did a complete field strip on the pistol 3 times at the range. Tried using SIG provided lube, grease and CLP. Got the the pistol to shoot 5 rounds without interruption once when I had it soaked in CLP. Pistol has an overall "tight" feel to it. Dissembled the barrel/chamber passes the "plunk" test as far as dropping a round freely into the chamber - no issue there. During the malfunction the slide would stop short of fully going into battery by about 1/8 of an inch or so - could not press the slide into battery and it was a real bitch to extract the round. I struggled with this for about 75 rounds or so. Called SIG they were cool about it and issued a shipping label. However, what do you guys think is the issue. My uneducated guess is the extractor. Thoughts? GENERAL GUIDELINES

Quoted: Extractor is too tight. Would be my guess without looking at it in person This +1 Here is a video on how to test it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o-XoJVNAo8&feature=related -Deke |

By hand or..... a-bare The slide would be about 1/8 of inch from being complety forward with a round. I could not press the slide fwd/closed.To clear I would drop the mag, I couldn't rack the slide reward by had to clear the weapon so I would press the slide against a carpeted range bench to create enough force to move the slide rearward and eject the round |

Something else is going on in there besides an improperly fit extractor. Does the gun cycle smoothly without ammunition? If it does and if the round enters the chamber but is difficult to extract you may have an overly tight chamber. Either way this pistol may need to go back to Sig for a fix. If it is an extractor issue then it should be both tensioned and properly radiused.

i had a similar problem with the same gun mine didn't have a enough oil but it was no where near as often as your speaking of What was the fix? Did the pistol loosen up with use? my fix was cleaning really well and making sure i had enough lube but like i said my problem was no where near as serious |

I pretty sure my issues aren't ammo or chamber releated. I'm still thinking its extractor related - however recognizing that I know next to nothing I sent the pistol back to Sig today. I'm anxious to hear what they have to say. I have subscribed to this thread. Please let us know what Sig says. I hope they get it working for you soon. |
| The barrel link sounds like it's too tall/long––basically it's pushing the barrel lugs into the slide lug mortices a little too early and a little too deep. Once 'jammed' into battery it makes it difficult to unlock the gun and retract the slide. Were there any marks on the ejected brass that would indicate chamber issues? |

I'm anxious to hear what they have to say. If Sig is shipping the pistol to and from them on their dime then I'm impressed with Sig's customer service. The only other companies I know that will do that is S&W and Springfield Armory. Glock sure as freaking hell won't. Ask me how I know. All my pistols are made by S&W and SA consequently. Let us know what Sig does to fix it. I've been hearing good things about their 1911-ish (haha) style pistols. I might just have to give one a try... Good luck OP. |

I've been meaning to get back to this post with an update.
Sent my pistol back to Sig with a detailed description of issues I was having. I had my pistol back from Sig in about 10 days. They included a note saying my issues i was having was tied to a factory magazine and they replaced the mag. Since getting the pistol back I've put about 1000 rounds thru it. As long as i stick to Ball type ammo the pistol runs fine - when i get into my different reloads is when's i have problems - so I've been experimenting with bullets that are close to the profile of ball ammo. Generally I'm pleased with Sig's customer service. Except i wish the tech/gunsmith who worked on my pistol would have contacted me. |
