I'm thinking of sending my 10mm CBOB off for a black/hard-chrome finish, but I can't decided if I want a black frame or a black slide.  Any one have some pics of two-tone 4.25" 1911's so I can get some inspiration?

As it is now:

I don't have any two tone Commanders per se, but I do have a couple of stainless and blue ones, so I mixed and matched for you.

Very nice, Ken!  I didn't expect anyone to go through that much trouble, but I appreciate your time and effort!

Thanks to both of you for the photos.  I think I'm going to go with the black slide.

No problem.  I prefer the black slide as well: it looks more classic and it also helps reduce glare in the sighting plane.

You want a dark slide.

1) they look better
2) reduce glare
3) reduce your "signature" at night when deploying your sidearm.

Edit to add: make certain to get the barrel bushing coated to match the slide, stainless bushings on blue/black slides just look terrible to me.

I   HATE   YOU!  I looked everywhere for a 4" or so, (4 1/4") 1911 in 10mm.  Couldn't even get a wiff of one.  After a couple months of looking I bought a 45 instead.  You must provide a range report and more pictures!

Sounds to like a great excuse to just but a brand new one in blue and then just swap slides around. Then you can have one frame of each color!!

stainless slide

It will keep your weapon looking alot better in the long run
Holster wear

While I don't drop or scratch my weapons for a living
stainless makes me not bang my head into a concret wall
and keeps me from biting my tounge off in rage

cosmetic damage will be bout 20% of a black slide

Back in 2007, I purchased five of the 10mm CBOB's from a shop in Memphis, TN.  I had posted a WTB on one of the forums and the dealer contacted me.  The one pictured above has been my primary carry gun ever since.  It now has well over 8k rounds down the pipe without a single failure.  My wife also carried one and had FTF failures that we traced back to one of the OEM mags.  We switched to Metalform mags and she never had another issue with hers, either.

About 95% of the rounds were my 180gr/1250fps FMJ reloads.  The rest were DoubleTap 165gr/1400fps JHP.  These pistols eat them like candy.

I'm down to three now.  I sold one of them here last year and one of the others was on the EE for a couple of weeks last month.  Mine is riding on my hip right now and the other two are in the vault.  When my twins grow up, they can have them.

Regarding the slide coating, I couldn't care less about holster wear.  Even stainless shows wear after a while.  My CBOB has quite a few "bright" marks from daily wear and tear.  The stainless Colt that I carried for 15yrs before the CBOB is also very well worn.  If you use any tool, it will show wear.  A black slide with honest wear is no less beautiful than a silver one.
