So I have been into 1911s forever but im startin to check out the officer's frame pistols for the first time. I was cruisin gunbroker and saw a Colt with an officer frame and commander slide. This is one good lookin gun and would be a great carry weapon. I'll go ahead and post the link so yall can check it out, its starting at $1,299 which is too high for me right now. Is this a normal price for these? and is there any other manufacturers that made/make these that I havent seen? I know wilson and the other custom guys make em, but those are obviously gonna be outta my price range too.

For about the same money you can pick up a Dan Wesson CCO and it has much better features than the Colt. Come with a orange front and green rear night sights. COlt does not have these. I will also add that this pistol is a damn accurate gun as well.

Notice the cut for the fully ramped barrel

Said barrel

Nice rice grain cuts on front and back strap, also notice how tight the slide to frame fit is.

Is the cco frame aluminum?
I have an SA compact(officer frame/four inch barrel), bushing barrel and all steel. I don't think they're still made that way but they are out there(just never when I have cash)!

Dang I never looked at the cco, I always thought it was a commander size. Thats a good-lookin pistol, I will definitely be puttin that on my list! it does look nicer than the colt obviously. Thanks for pointin it out!

To me at least the fully ramped barrel is a big plus. With an alloy frame I worry that with a lot of shooting a semi ramped barrel frame would wear faster. Barrels are easy to replace frames cost a bunch more.

The Colt is probably a bit high end of the spectrum at $1,299.  I've been shopping the same two guns, and the Colts seem to trade for $1100 +/- $50.  It may even be less $ if you can find one locally, as gunbroker prices are typically always cranked up.  On the other hand, DW's at $1300 are at the low end of the scale.  I've handled and shot that DW.  It's REALLY nice, but I'm personally looking for Colts at the moment.  If you pay attention to Colt prices, they tend to go UP quickly once the initial supply is sold off the market, so now would be the time to buy if you like the Colt.

I have one of the COLT/TALO CCOs for my carry gun and I didn't pay anywhere near that for it. If you want night sights then the extra cost for the DW would be fine but it would be a waste of money for me. My COLT/TALO CCO is a great pistol at it's price point and does everything I need in a CCW.

For your reference, I shopped for Colts today.  Local shop was asking $1229.99 for them  Their overall pricing structure seemed to be fairly high, but they have  a lot of guns other stores do not have also.

They are pretty nice.  I had not realized that they came with NM barrels until I handled them.

I bought it at a gun show from a local dealer.
Let's just say I paid more than $200 less than the GB asking price last year.

I went a different route I took my officers model sold to me by a good friend when his agency decided he could not carry anything but a revolver. I added a King barrel and comp that made it commander length with a match barrel, Wane Novak put a set of his night sights on it for me and I had it Metalife plated by Mahovsky and carried it for 20+ years for work for two agencies.  Extremely accurate, comp would allow no flip even shooting issue IMI 230 HB.  Changed the grips after I retired to the ones on it now from Pachmyers

Ok add the gunsmith charge to checker the front strap and main spring housing, night sights, cut for fully ramped match grade barrel and I think if you wanted those features you will end up paying more than the DW. If you don't care about them them buy the Colt.

S&W (Compact ES) and Sig (C3) also make CCO sized guns. Kimber and Springfield make or made similar sized guns but with a 4" bushingless coned barrel (both call it the Compact). The aforementioned Dan Wesson is nice as well and several different Colt CCOs have been made both factory and special edition models. Price obviously varies between them, I've seen the Springfield and Kimber models used for as low as $500 and the basic Colt as low as $650. The S&W and Sig can be had in the $800 range new.

You can find a Colt new Agent in 9mm or 45 for around 850 if you keep looking around. Look for either "Colt New Agent" or "Colt Defender" ... They are really nice conceal carry pieces and are very reliable. I know I used to have one :)

I too am a fan of the Defenders but not what the OP is talking about as they do not use the commander length barrel and slide.

thanks for all the replys, I actually found one of the kimbers for 700 the other day in a shop, figured it was a little high for a very used gun, and it had some sheriff's name engraved on it, pretty cool but I dont really want someone else's name on my pistol. Im going to check out the C3 and maybe one of the colts. the DW is badass, just pricey from what I have seen
