so I have a loaded springfield 1911. And I have always placed the barrel link down to the rear of the gun when reassembly. But all these youtube videos shows people having it up next to the spring? am I doing it wrong or does it even matter?

I always reassemble my 1911 with the link "down."

It has to be in that position to allow the Slide Lock/Release Pin to be inserted.

so if i get the pin into place then that means the link went in the right place/

I make sure the link is vertical and I can see daylight through the link before I reassemble the slide to the frame.
