looking at possibly my first 1911 have roughly 900 to spend give or take i would like to spend less so i could get some ammo to but if its worth it to put it all into the gun i would what are some choices that are recommended
The few i have been looking at are springfield loaded Sig tac ops or scorpion maybe an RIA on the cheaper end Maybe a kimber of some kind just havent heard many good things about them lately it seems like either in 9mm or 45 acp i already own a 9mm so that would save on ammo costs |

I have a RIA 1911. I love mine, you wont be able to beat their customer service too if you have problems, I doubt you will.

These are the models I'd recommend, and in order of my personal preference.
SIG XO $750 http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/1911-xo-black.aspx Colt Combat Elite $900 http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtPistols/ColtCombatElite.aspx Colt M1991 $800 http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtPistols/Colt1991Series.aspx Ruger SR1911 $650 if you can find it http://www.ruger.com/products/sr1911/models.html STI Spartan $650 http://www.stiguns.com/the-sti-spartan-v-2/ Springfield Range Officer $750 http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=27 Kimber Custom II $850 http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/custom-ii |
| I'd also recommend the Smith & Wesson E-Series. The basic model runs somewhere around $750-780. You get alot of features for the buck and Hilton Yam has done a bunch of testing with the gun. The E-Series external extractor design is the only one he's found that passes their extractor function test. |

Here is a 9mm RIA 9mm RIA and if you dont like that here is a commander .45 RIA Compact 1911 RIA |
| how accurate are the ria's though compared to some of the others and reliability wise because if they are just average and buying the STI spartan or sig xo or something in that price range is worth the extra money i would just go that way i want something that will last |

I cant speak of super longevity but I have fired mine for about 4 years now and about 2k rounsd through it and had 0 problems. At first there was an issue with mine having stove pipes. I called RIA and they paid for all my shipping and the work and returned it to me all fixed. No problems since. There is a torture test out there somewhere , i cant find it at the moment. |
| ya would it be worth getting lets say the sig over the ria though i am not planning on spending a tone thats why im choosing the sig over some of the others as parts wear out you can always replace them with something better i assume so its not a big deal to me just want something that will last |

| don't know about other areas but in my neck of the woods it is easy to find plenty of used 1911's which is the route I would go. when shopping take along a 1911 expert- the last thing you would want is a 1911 modified by bubba and unfortunately there are a lot of them out there. My first choice is a used Colt. I go to check the few shops in my area with decent inventory about once every week or two and on my last rip found no less than 6 used Colts under 700 bucks in good shape. If you insist on new, then you would have to consider the foreign made 1911's (springfield ria) both good guns but I like my 1911's made in USA. Some of the base model S&W's will be right at your 900 limit, with the new ruger a little cheaper (but still hard to find since they are the "flavor of the week") |
