Ok I am new to the 1911 scene, and I was able to pick up a "Argentina Colt Modelo 1927". I was wondering what would be the best parts to replace/upgrade? I don't have any pictures but it is in really great shape, it has been refinished "parkerized". It won't ever be a carry gun but I want to make it a really good shooter. any help would be appriciated. |

Do a field strip, if you don't see any obviously worn parts....load up some mags and go shooting. Don't fix what ain't broke.
Parts that could be worn: Barrel bushing barrel link and pin Hammer/ sear recoil spring mainspring Hammer spring if anything...start with a new set of springs. I don't think many parts will be "drop in" on that older pistol, especially being in the 1911 family. |

Unless a part on your pistol is worn and defective, don't replace anything.
These guns were made of all forged and milled parts. Most modern parts are MIM or cast steel that just aren't the same quality as the old guns. If you want, you could replace the recoil spring just on general principles. Make sure you buy an original factory weight spring, not an extra power spring. The original spring is a 16 pound spring. If you shoot hotter ammo you can go up to a 17 or 17 1/2 pound spring. |

"Really good shooter" is a bit vague, but if it were mine, I'd have to do something about the grip safety, sights, and trigger pull.
I can't shoot a GI-style grip safety very much without tearing my hand up. A Wilson drop-in for a Colt Government would help quite a bit without permanently altering the frame. The tiny GI sights will allow you to shoot accurately but not very quickly. A staked-on, black front sight would be a big improvement, as would a Harrison Retro drop-in rear. The trigger pull can usually be lightened by an experienced 'smith with no parts replacement required. |

They are high quality firearms. Is yours an actual COLT or is it Argentine made? |
