With a good holster with a leather guard for the sights, would you carry the Springfield Loaded Target?

I have this thing I bought at a good price almost new a couple of years ago and I want to carry it.  I thought about trading it for a Loaded model with Novak sights but I would take a bath on the trade.

I have also thought about putting the Harrison fixed sites on it but to send it to them and have it done is just too much inconvenience.

If I had a good OWB holster with a shield would that be ok?

I'll CCW anything that I can carry comfortably.

Is it reliable?  Do you trust your life to the gun?  If the answer is yes then get a good holster and carry on.

Sights are of primary importance for a carry gun; are you confident that the sights on that pistol will work for you in a self defense situation?

The gun is uber reliable.  I am just trying to find a way to be content with the gun as it is.

If it were me, I'd stake the rear sight hinge pin to make sure it would stay put, bevel the (sharp) corners of the rear sight blade, and call it good.

I carry my 'Loaded' every day just like this in a Gelco 'Yaqui' paddle holser and have no problems. If the target sights don't bother you by digging into your body anywhere have at it. If you ever need to use your sidearm for self defense you won't even bother with the sights.......trust me.

OP has concerns about his target sights, you have Novak sights

I believe a big concern over target "bomar" type sights for CHL is the worrk that they are quite fragile.  You drop your gun or it gets knocked around in a scuffle, you may find yourself without a rear sight.

That said, I am a big fan of SA 1911s.  I carry a Champion regularly.

I think I'd take the time to replace the sight with a Novac's style rear sight.  I would think you can find one to fit the existing dovetail and do it yourself.  Talk to the boys at Dawson Precision.

It's much more than a dovetail.  It's like a bomar cut.  It's called an LPA cut.  Not a lot of options for a fixed sight other than a Harrison.

Correct. Read my second sentence..........

Do you plan on using the gun in both the target environment as well as the CCW?

If yes, you might want to just take some of the sharp edges off and cold-blue them, and live with the target sights. Nothing wrong with them as long as you trust them.

If no, then you may want to swap them for different sights. I am converting a Range Officer to a CCW / HD gun, and I am swapping out the factory sights for the Harrison Custom (LPA Cut) and a tritium front sight.

+1 Replace it with Harrison. Couple of versions available.

Those are good points.  I carried a Kimber Custom Target for five years with the adjustable rear sight. The little nut on the windage screw fell off at an USPSA match but fortunately the sights didn't move.

If I were to start carrying it again I would either replace the sight or loctite the daylights out of it.

I've done it. At seven yards, you just need a front sight and a squared up rear of slide. At 15 yards, you actually need sight alignment.

I've seen guys (Ive done it) shoot a field course with a dot in off mode. My case I use a larger knob on the cmore and when I pulled the gun from a mech bag it turned the dot off, other cases were the shooter just forgot to turn the dot on, hey it happens. Funny thing all the shots were scorable.

I guess If you draw the gun enough you kind of learn how to point it.  With a Dot gun your draw has to be perfect or you end up doing the dot shake.

Target sights are undesirable for carry guns.... but if you've passed the point of no return, harrison custom makes combat sights that will fit in LPA and BoMar sight cuts.
