I saw a Dan Wesson Classic commander bobtail today at the local shop and it looked new for $899. Even though I vowed that my 1911 collection was complete I took a look at it anyway. It was a real nice gun with box and papers and all and I was tempted...until

I noticed that the bobtailed mainspring housing did not sit flush with the bottom of the gun and was off about 1/8th of inch or so from flush and one side slightly worse than the other. It was in there tight and all and I'm glad that I noticed it because it made it that much easier to give it back.

Is this a common issue with them? I have never heard anything but good things about them and it felt nice. Maybe they would fix it under warranty?

I would say uncommon. That said if you had bought it I bet you could have sent it back for a no charge repair, or replacement if warranted. Give DW a call tomorrow and ask them what they would do and if they would send a call tag for the gun.
