Should I boil it?

I've been shopping, and then putting off, and then shopping for a 1911 to purchase in 2011. I'm pleased to report that I've pulled the trigger on a brand new Kimber Custom II TLE.

This is my first .45, and my first Kimber.

I've put 408 rounds thru it as of this post, and plan on putting another 100 thru it tomorrow. Out of the 400 rounds there have been 5 Failure to feeds. I've been cleaning the gun after every 100 rounds, and a predominant amount of the failures occurred at under 100 rounds.  I'm hoping that as the round count goes up (past 500) the failure rate will go down.

Overall I am SUPER happy with this gun, and look forward to shooting it more!

I've had a number of kimbers over the years. They should function flawlessly right out of the box with good ammo and proper mags. I would call them up. They have great customer service. I had a production issue with one gun and they fixed it up quickly. Had another issue with magazines being too long and they diagnosed it and threw in some basic reliability work (polished feed ramp) all for free.

Reportedly, in the last few years there have been some concerns about Kimber quality and customer service. all my experiences pre-date this report. Might check out the experience of others whose purchases have been more recent.

You shouldn't have failures to feed.

I have a Kimber that did that about once every hundred.  They never did fix it.

I did my own trouble shooting and found that the extractor was very sharp without any bevel on it.  I followed the Bill Wilson Extractor Tuning Tips and it's been flawless for at  least a couple thousand rounds.

It's something to check.

I am going to draw a lot of heat with this but I'm doing it anyway Malfunctions with the Kimber are most likely shooter induced
Give the gun to another experienced shooter and see what happens go from there

Fed it a flawless 150 Rounds today. No FTE, FTF or any other failures of any kind.

another 200 rounds without issue. I'd say that the gun is 'broken in' :D

The TLE II is a great bang for the buck and one of my favorites.
