| I read somewhere awhile back that springfield custom shop had a package for the "professional upgrade" or something like it, where you send in your gun and they fix it up like the professional. Do they still have this? Im wondering because I have a well-used mil-spec that I would like to change up. I didn't see anything about it on their order sheet and figured i would ask around before I called and tried to explain what I'm looking for. thanks |

Yes, if you go to Springfield's web site and under the Products menu, there's a "Custom Shop" choice. Download the 1911 Custom Worksheet from there, and you should be all set.
You can also specify custom touches on top of any package you select. Edited to add - their "professional" guns are basically hand built; if you send it in for work and select the TRP package, you're effectively getting the TRP Pro package on your gun. |

They still offer the Professional Package at it's somewhere around $2200.
From what I understand, this package was taken off the worksheet because most people don't see it as an economical option when you can order a real Pro for $2650. Once your Mil-Spec is done, the only difference between it and a Pro would be, obviously the roll-marks, but also the frames and slides that are used on the Pro come from Brazil with oversized rail cuts for hand fitting. Your Mil-Spec would be tightened up by the shop though. Here's a list of features the Professional comes with to get an idea of what the upgrades would be... Features: Custom fit slide to national match frame Custom fit match barrel & bushing Polished feed ramp & fully throated barrel Springfield Custom tool steel match hammer & sear Fitted speed trigger w/custom tuned 4 ½ lb. trigger pull Tuned for total reliability Lowered & flared ejection port Tuned & polished extractor Standard 1911-A1 recoil spring guide Custom fitted beavertail grip safety Custom fitted ambidextrous thumb safety Low mount Novak rear sight w/matching dovetail front sight 3 dot tritium inserts in sights Custom fit S&A magazine well, matched to bevel on frame Hand checkered 20LPI front strap checkering Checkered Cocobolo grips “Carry Bevel” complete pistol “Black T” finish complete pistol 6- 7 round magazines w/slam pads “Professional” model markings on slide |

The TRP and the Professional are two totally different guns. The TRP is a production gun and is basically a loaded model with upgrades. The Professional is a custom shop gun from start to finish. The Professional also has different parts than the TRP, as specified by the FBI, which include: Wilson Combat Ambi-Safety, S&A magwell, standard guide rod, SA tool steel hammer and sear, Black-T finish... etc. |

Yeah, I don't follow current SA nomenclature, but when I last looked (years ago ) there were two TRPs - the TRP, which was higher end assembly line stuff, and the TRP Pro...which was basically a hand made/fitted TRP with some upgrades; which I guess would alternately be known as the Bureau Model, or the Professional, or...etc...
My apologies if I confused some things in SA's line around, they keep changing things on me

| dang I was thinking that would be about half the price of the actual pistol, not 2200 bucks... The only reason i wanted to do it is because I wanted the accuracy, reliability, and fit to be along the lines of the professional. Iv shot a couple hundred rounds through a family members and its by Far my favorite 1911 iv ever shot. Iv got 2 other 1911s so ill probably just keep the mil-spec with what I got on her already |

sounds good thanks. I thought I was looking at 600-700 bucks for the upgrde! nevermind! guess I will have to go ahead and buy a pro (10...20 years from now... Appreciate the advice Yeah, I was going to send in a Loaded Parkerized for a TRP upgrade until I saw $895. That would put the cost way over what a new TRP would be. |
