Are there any links that show how to fit a threaded barrel to a RIA? I have a RIA Tactical and I bought a Storm Lake barrel and it doesn't fit and before I start trying to make it work I was wondering the right way of fitting it. Any help would be perfect.

This is a good article posted by Mad Professor...read the section on the Kart barrel fitting kart and you will see in principal what you are up against...if you have never fit a 1911 barrel before you may want to seek out some help from someone who has done it and this has absolutely nothing to do with your ability it simply is easier to learn the process if you can see someone do it...the lower lugs will more than likely have to be cut...the hood will need to be fit to the slide properly with proper clearances at side and rear.. etc...he describes how to get it into battery then the process of filing the upper lugs and that can be tedious...the lower lug contact with slide stop is fairly straightforward but make sure contact is symmetrical.... another tip is to take measurements of your barrel primarily length and width of hood and lug height before touching it with a file...you will be surprised how much difference .001 or .002 will make...good luck and let us know how it turns out... |
