Can a Sig 1911 frame take other 1911 slides? Could I take a complete slide from a Colt or Nighthawk and use it on the frame of a Sig 1911?
If not please...please explain why. Thanks |
Well, apparently, I can.
It fits pretty nicely, too. The rear of the slide and frame match up almost perfectly. 
I can't swear it would function perfectly since the slide, frame, and barrel really need to be fitted together for best results, and the SIG and Colt both use Series 80 firing pin safety systems which would probably have to be checked for correct timing. It's something that shouldn't be relied upon, since 1911s are still mostly an individual law unto themselves, even today... but Colt's dimensions are going to be closer to something resembling a standard. |
