I'm looking for a 9mm for my wife she likes the 1911 layout but the 45acp is a little too much for her.

So any recommendations for a 9mm in the $1000  range ?

I love my Kimber tac pro 9mm. It eats everything, doesn't give me problems, and has super light recoil. Paid 900.

I picked up an STI Trojan 9mm for my wife, and she loves it (and so do I).

The Springfield "Loaded" models are nice if she is OK with a full size gun. They come in stainless and have everything you would need on a defensive gun. Find one with a "NM" serial number prefix and they are a well made gun for around $900.

Because you didn't like it?  Or just cause it didn't cross your mind?

Is she OK with a full size pistol?  What about the STI Spartan in 9MM?  Or the STI Trojan?  Personally, I'm holding out for the Springfield Trophy Match 9MM.

Rock Island Armory sells 9mm 1911s, both single stack and high capacity. Affordable too. Or you could get a Springfield Armory EMP if she would prefer a compact.

This.  The 9mm STI Trojan appears to be the favorite of pistol action/competition shooters, who shoot way more rounds than any other group I've encountered.  Based on their reports, I just bought a 9mm Trojan, and am outfitting it as a "girl gun" for training my daughter (15 yo).
The Trojan comes with thin grips.  I bought a short STI trigger and have fit that.  Dawson Precision did a trigger job on it before shipping.  I've put an Ed Brown big button mag release on it.  I'm going to load some light recoil 9mm rounds for it, and have put a lighter 10 lb recoil spring in it, and also have bought an even lighter 9 lb spring, just in case.  I also pu in an Aftec extractor, because those work perfectly for me (I have a 45 Trojan, that I've put thousands of rounds through in USPSA matches and pratice).

I have heard this too.

My plan is to train my daughter with the STI Trojan 9mm, then, if the training works out, get a EMP to train on as a carry gun.

Yep, I've carried my EMP for about two years... great great gun. The feed ramp needed a polish to get all kinds of hollowpoints to work, but it's been flawless since.

And they make cute slim grips too. :)
