I own a few 1911A1 type pistols. All are entry level lower wrung types in .45 auto and one in 9mm.
I have a Taurus PT1911, their most basic mode in blue steel. Its been hot from shooting. Hot enuff to where you wouldn't want to touch the slide. By now it has several thousand rounds thru it, maybe 5 or 6 thousand at the most. I got it new. When new the slide to frame-side to side fit was good. I didn't really notice any slop. Now, its lose but still functions great and it shoots more accuratly than i do. This is byfar the loosest 1911or any semi auto I have. I also have a Springfield, plain jane, entry level 'Mil-Spec' model in stainless steel with upwards around 1500 rounds thru it. The slide to frame-side to side fit is snug. There is virtuly no side to side play at slide to frame rails. No barrel hood movement. I see some lite rub marks where the slide may be contacting the frame before & aft the disconnector. When in battery the barrel to barrel bushing fit is tighter than I've seen on any other 1911. Is it supposed to be like that? This pistol runs fine with ball, HP, SWC, hot and mild loads with and without a Wilson shock buff. In one outting I put just over 200 handloads thru it so it was a little dirty and functioned with no stoppages. This is the only Springfield 1911 I own or have closely examined. Seems like with everything so tight that would accelerate wear. I thought that after 400 to 500 rounds it would loosen up a little but it hasn't. I bought this pistol new because I liked the way it looks. The stainless is gorgeous. I like the features it has or does not have. I like the curved main spring housing, mil-spec non-beavertail grip safety and mil-spec thumb safety. I like the short trigger and flared eject port. I want an extended mag release and a top quality trigger job for this pistol. But,since this pistol is fit so snugly maybe i should upgrade a different 1911A1? Thanks Much VonB |
